Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Im looking to get rid of my current mini cooper and pick up one of these, the old shape that is. Is it worth it thought as an upgrade? plus how much you think id paying to pick one up? anyt ips? cheers

Pretty sure I'm gonna get one of these now. Apart from ebay, autotrader, pistonheads, gumtree, where else can I look which has good quality cars?

Are there specific forums I need to be keeping an eye on generally?

Agree with Janesy. I don't know why you would go from a Type R to a Fiesta ST? It is a downgrade.

I think the ST is a better looking car but it has the same high revs when cruising along the motorway, crap MPG around 28-32mpg. A good engine but you have to spend ££££ to get near the Type R engine.

Suppose the insurance would be a lot cheaper.

I can't help thinking a Fiesta ST would frustrate you after owning a CTR.

I am going to stick my neck out and agree with this. Previously I have defended the fiesta on this forum but hsving owned a fiesta st and now an fn2 ctr, and having spent a lot of time in ep3s...the civics are just better.

I liked my fiesta st (Mountune 200) but the engine and gearbox in the ep3 and fn2 is frankly in a different league. Even with the fiesta st modified it doesn't want to rev like the k20, nor is it anywhere near as smooth. Drivability did suffer slightly with the modified fiesta once cams were added - idle was very rough and it didn't drive well in slow moving traffic. A k20 makes 200bhp as standard, to get the fiesta to 200bhp you end up with something that drives like a bag of spanners at times on the road. 3k in mountune engine mods on my fiesta and it was still a worse engine for a hot hatch than you'd get in the civic.

The fiesta st brakes were better and the steering has more feel, but as standard the civics are quicker, more comfortable, have a better and more special interior and a far superior drivetrain.

I sold my EP3 as my last company went bust. I have a new job but no overtime, generally less hours and a lesser wage. Simple as that, can't have everything :)

I need to put some cash up for houses and Honda prices for parts are loads more than Ford. I have an Astra MK4 2.2 at the mo. Not all that quick but I can live with it no problem. It's just not much fun, bit soft etc.

If I could find an IMMACULATE ep3 I'd have one, but really most are now dogs. I won't be able to afford an FN2 without finance but I did fancy one not so long back... but then we'd open up the doors to Focus ST's and the likes too, but not sure I could justify the fuel on one of those.

Have to see what happens :)

I absolutely love it.

Great handling, excellent pace, confortable and it is returning 40mpg on our usual commute (not driving particularly economically).

It has already had the three recall pieces of work done on the 1500mile courtesy check over- for anyone interested the three recalls were: Turbo Boost Hose replacement, brake line washer replacement (can't remember exactly on this one) and rear bumber paint check (apparantly some of them are suffering from flaking paint).

On a side note, it is also nice to see that all of the motoring publications are coming to the same conclusion when comparing it to the Clio and 208.

Easily the best colour for the ST, that looks lovely! If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay? I'm interested in upgrading my Fiesta ZS to one of these, but with demand outstripping supply, I can't imagine they are too willing to knock much off?

As for your usual commute; what kind of roads and how far? I do about 45 miles a day mainly motorway so interested to see how it would compare. Currently average low 40's in the ZS and would be happy if I could manage the same

Thanks :)

We paid just over 18k (Stock ST-2 plus Metallic paint & Style pack - the garage also threw in the lifeshine pack as well). We bought the one in the showroom hence why we were able to get one relatively early (still havn't seen another one locally despite a Ford garage just up the road). Haggling is possible - we got an effective 1k discount, but as you say it all depends on Supply and Demand. I know the garage we bought it from said they would struggle to get another Showroom / Demonstrator in.

Our commute is from Yeovil to Bridgwater via Street. A mixture of A & B roads with an overall mixture of speed limits. It is around 40 miles each way. I imagine 40mpg should be quite easy on the motorway as long as you stay off the loud pedal (difficult believe me!).

Thanks for that insight. It seems like a great car in terms of running costs + enjoyment, although that is somewhat offset by purchase price + depreciation I guess. Might jump on one after a year or so when they are a bit cheaper :p I don't think I've seen any on the road yet in person.

I got a ST-2 in black priced up at £16495 with the style pack thrown in. They offered me £10700 for the metal so i backed out straight away. Will probably try and see if i can sell privately. Had a nice 3 hour drive in it though and fell in love but would have to go PCP if i was to get one. Will probably wait until next year and get a second hand one.

Insurance was cheap as well at £290.

I got them down to £16,350 for my black ST2 (a few posts up) with metallic. The style pack was free at the time, not sure if it still is. £14,600 with privilege discount.

Anyone got any brake pad recommendations? Currently doing a 300mm brake upgrade but can't decide on what pads to have on the front. Been looking at Ferodo DS2500 but cheapest I can find them is £129. Want a good set of pads for peace of mind plus the odd track day.

Also are cams worthwhile with the standard Ford inlet? I recently bought some newman cams but finding it hard to find somewhere to get them fitted with a remap. Everyone who offers those services are based at the other end of the country (Jamsport, AMD). Only got a few days left to return them for a refund.

I do a lot of dual carriage way and stop-start town driving. Are cams really worth it?
