Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Anyone got any brake pad recommendations? Currently doing a 300mm brake upgrade but can't decide on what pads to have on the front. Been looking at Ferodo DS2500 but cheapest I can find them is £129. Want a good set of pads for peace of mind plus the odd track day.

what callipers are you using for the 300mm upgrade? Mondeo? Or the normal Fiesta ones with Focus ST170 carriers?

Mondeo callipers only really have EBC to choose from, Keeping the Fiesta callipers gives you a greater choice.

Ive had both, i run for 2 years on Mondeo callipers, using Greenstuff then Redstuff pads. Greenstuffs i damaged on track due to excessive heat. Redstuffs are pretty good, but cold breaking was a bit hit and miss. Recently gone back to my old Fiesta callipers after sourcing some FocusST170 carriers and now running DS2500 pads. Miles better bite, and not had any issues with fade or cold braking, However they are noisy pads and dirty too.

I'm doing Fiesta calipers with Focus ST170 carriers. Looking at doing front and back as I bought front and rear calipers. Just doing Mintex discs and pads on rear.

DS2500 has been suggested to me elsewhere but I don't know if they'll be a bit overkill for day to day use. Been looking at Cosworth StreetMasters too. Not done a track day before but plan on doing one sometime so want pads that are suitable for both.

Ds2500s are fine on the road, maybe slight overkill but if you can ignore the dust tgey work fone on the road, even when cold. You must bed them in properly though else they will feel a bit wooden. I had Ds2500s with the 300mm disc (using st170 bracket) on my old st and it was a fantastic setup. You might find streetmaster pads weak in track, doubt you will with ds2500s on this car with the big discs. It takes proper abuse in its stride!

Ok thanks for the advice will & overlag. Looks like I'm stumping up the price for the DS2500. Any thoughts on my cams question please?

Wish i could swap my Zetec S for an ST. Just love the interior, look the same on the outside the engine would just be a plus. Would never have a black car again though :(.

Hopefully going to view this Fiesta ST this weekend :)

That's round the corner from me that! Not a fan of the wheels but at least they are including the originals. Any reason they use the 16" wheels for Summer and the original 17" wheels for Winter? Would have thought the 16"s would be better for winter with higher profile tyres.

16's in summer I guess so he can go lower on the coilovers and because there new he wouldn't want to destroy them in the winter.

Spent some time asking loads of questions through ebay and phone convo. Going to view Sunday. I'm so tempted just put a one-er down on it now to hold it but I've been stung doing that before when it wasn't quite as described...

But all I can say is, if he's being honest is theres nowt up with it bar aircon needs regassing (I've only had one car where it worked properly! lol), he thought the seat leather was creased but he sent pics and it's really near mint! Also his door swung open into a friends at work and a few paint chips on the door edge are present, he emailed me pics titled dings.... all I can say is this dude is a bit like me with OCD. Just a few little chips! Seems genuine him leaving for NZ. Theres some tar spots down the drivers side of the car he's not had time to sort, I can live with it if it's otherwise mint, I can get them off with tar and glue remover, the guy seems manic sorting everything to leave so I can excuse him that.

So, apparently drives brill, no noises, clonks, bangs, anything untowards. No dents/scrapes/scratches. Good milage, age, price... sounds a bit good to me :)

Discussed a price... not as low as I want but theres other interest and I wanna pip them to it if the cars good, so going to view Sunday and it's good value. I'll sell the roof bars and vibe sub/amp he's got fitted... but he's been adament he doesn't want people thinking he added things like coilies, amp/sub because he's a boyo... well spoken chap and it's the kind of thing I do to my cars too, not to go mental but to just make them more me. So I am so far taking his word for it :)

I didn't want a silver car but it seems good value, wanted white or blue, definitely with blue interior but I would eventually add mods and if this guy is legit then it's not been thraped (a great deal haha).

I really like the wheels now I've looked at them a bit, always read they drive better on 16's.

Babbling now - re-enlighten me of important things to check folks :)

Check brakes aren't binding at the rear, calipers at the back are bizarrely expensive to replace, they cost more than the fronts when I was looking (I replaced both in my ownership).

Check aux belt area for rattles when blipping revs.

Check power steering fluid colour...if its still got a red tint to it, thats good, but if its black, it probably needs changing, hard use overheats the fluid pretty quickly and it starts to go off....

Check plastic trims on the edge of the B pillar isn't loose, these can get loose and eventually fall off!

Will think of more things to check, I'm sure Overlag will add something, his car is like triggers broom now, everything replaced (more through hard track use and mileage rather than chronic unreliability though) :D

Cheers Will, ideal stuff, will jot it all down so I don't forget :D I will look into the PAS relocation idea too, think I noted some stuff down from earlier in this thread some time ago. Will try and scoot through 75 pages on sat! Haha, thanks again :)

Copied from the FiestaSTOC thread - "Buying a MK6 ST?"

Pre Facelifts can suffer from a starting issue where the engine won't start first time. This can be resolved by an ECU/PCM update from Ford for around £90 (price can vary, just a guide)

CD players - Facelifts have a CD6000 or the optional extra which is the CDC6006 6 disc changer. For '08 onwards, there was the optional extra Sony DAB which is what is in the ST500's.

Power steering fluid in all models can "boil". Check it for it's colour, it should be a bright cherry red. If it is black then it needs replacing ideally. Symptoms can be a loud whining noise then steering the car. Easy to do yourself

Check any additional features work such as heated front screen. Pre Facelifts only have a heated front screen, heated rear screen + wing mirrors and the usual heater features.

Facelifts can come equipped with auto lights and wipers, so check they work too. A common fault for the lights is they will begin to constantly change level/height and wear the motors out.

The power folding mirrors on facelifts can have a tendancy to "click" when you lock the car (immobilise) motor doesn't know when to stop so keeps trying to fold them in after they have done so...causes the clicking noise.

Gears can seem stiff when cold, this is quite common and will ease up as the car warms up.

In general these car will feel a bit "jerky" to drive when cold, they need to be warmed up a bit to perform more smoothly.

Check for the likes of the tyres are all the same...a basic sign of if the previous owner really cared about the car!

The seat catches can both break (plastic connection on the underside) or the cables can come loose and so they won't work. Simple check...try and tilt the seats forward.

Check the suspension over, especially if the car has been lowered on lowering springs. Check the springs for any cracks and shocks for any splits/leaking oil from the top.

Check for signs of rust, mainly around the wheel arches as they are the most susceptible are for this.

Then you'll want to do your standard "private sale" checks. HPi etc etc
