Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Skeeter claims you should ignore mileage and buy on condition and major service items being completed - mine ticks both of these boxes :)

This is true but it doesnt mean you pay low mileage prices for a 130k miler.

It means you dont rush off and pay £3.5k for a 60k miler when there is a 130k miler with everything done in great nick for £2.5k.

A 130k miler isn't too far off being a 144k miler and being due a second cambelt....

Is it also every 3 or 5 years if the milage isn't reached?

Mine has just had its second cambelt, along with what would be its third auxbelt and a new dephaser pulley.

£3000-3500 is bottom of the market for 182s, so pricing a high mileage car but ultimately one that is in better condition than the rest, within this price range is not unrealistic.

There aren't any 130k 182s in great nick for £2.5k, neither are there any 60k mile 182s in great nick for £3.5k.

Thanks.

Cheers for the info Skeeter and co. As I said I'm just putting the feelers out at the minute to try and get an idea what I should be looking out for and what I should be wanting to get (wasn't aware a cambelt change would be so much, that has surprised me) if this is the route I choose to go. I still need run some insurance quotes anyway as I've had a couple of bumps in the past so it's not as good as it could be.

Oh yeah, you did mention it, sorry.

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about them so wont offer any comparisons to the Clio. what are your reasons for loosing the Celica in the first place?

Just in a fortunate position where the value of the Celica is greater that the value of the loan I have against it so just going to sell it so I can pay it off and start putting more money aside each month for me to move out.

The best way to think of the Celica too is as a tame CTR/Intergra. Mine definitely has more show than go... :D

Ah, ok, thats cool. Just wanted to make sure you weren't looking for something more economical or something.

Clio is a good bet. Get a test drive in some if you can.

Nah, I'm happy with the costs associated with the Clio it's just the Cambelt change that has surprised me so far but that's the whole point of doing this research. Will get on to Cliosport this evening I think.

Aye looking forward to getting a test drive sorted as they are highly respected little machines so should be fun.

You can get the belts done much cheaper than a main dealer.

I sent mine in for a free health check and also to claim a free first aid kit and other gubbins. They said it needed the belts doing which would cost not for off £1000. If they actually bothered to look in the service book they'd have seen it was done 2000 miles previous at JMS (a specialist that I'd recommend) for around the £600 mark IIRC.

If you find your feelers settle on a clio 172/182 then sign up to cliosport.net as there's lots of useful information on there including specialist mechanics which use the forums themselves.

Hi everyone,

I currently own a Fabia vRS, but I am in the process of changing jobs and will therefore go from doing 60 miles a day to 10 miles a day and so I'm looking to change my car to something better handling and more exciting than the Fabia.

I'm quite fancying a Clio but can't quite make up my mind on which model to go for, could you offer me some help?

From the reading I've done so far this is how I see it.

172 Cup - not particularly interested in this due to interior and lack of toys.

172 - Seems quite a good option, but worried it won't offer me the handling the cup suspension would give me. I would like the toys of the 172 but with the cup suspension, but this doesn't seem to be an option.

182 - Again worried about not having cup suspension.

182 Cup - not particularly interested in this due to interior and lack of toys.

182 with both cup packs - seems like the ideal option for me, but would I get a good example for the money I would get from the sale of my Fabia, considering I would like to put £500 - £1000 of the sale value of the Fabia in the bank?

182 Trophy - I expect this would be out of my price range.

Any advice is greatly appreciated as you all seems to have a great knowledge of these cars, whereas I've only been reading up on them for the last day or two.

That's something I'm not quite sure on as I haven't tried to sell/part exchange it yet.

It has 83k miles, a full Skoda service history, new turbo fitted last week, cambelt and water pump changed at 60k. Good condition bar a small crack in the drivers wing mirror and 2 scuffed alloys.

I ran a quote on we buy any car and it came out at £3700, I expect this is a lower price due to being from we buy any car. On PH they seem to be going for between £4k-£5k.

I plan to get it all polished up and cleaned out next week and see what prices the dealers offer me so that I have some idea to work with.

What should I be looking to pay for a 182 with both cup packs on say 60k with full service history in good condition?

A quick look on CS shows 60-80k 182's with both cup packs going for between £3500 and £5000 depending on upgrades, condition, age, and optimism of the seller.

If you can sell the vRS for £5k you should be able to get a decent 182 for £4k and pocket the £1k change.
