Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I've never warped a set of discs in my life skeeter, and im fairly harsh on my brakes (I managed to cook some ds2500 on track). Are you stomping down on the pedal or are you progressively braking harder (over 1-2 seconds)? The prior will cause the discs to warp.

I've been so busy with work recently, car maintenance has pretty much gone out the window. The oil warning has just come up so i'll top that up tomorrow, and on my way to work this morning a start getting a horrible feel from the brake pedal...yeah, sort of have no brake pads left! They were an advisory on my MOT in janurary and i've done a track day since, so i'm lucky they have lasted this long.

Emergency phone call to ktec for a next day delivery of RC5+, out of stock! noooooo! Decided to give the RC6 a go, sean from ktec has run them in his car and has assured me they won't ruin my wheels, despite all the stories.

I also spoke to sean about the mapping & timing on my car and that im basically fed up with the popping and banging, he told me to bring it back and they will remap the car as best they can to stop it.

I've got snetterton booked for the end of april and really looking forward to it as i've not been there for ages, since the car was pretty much standard. Just need to get the car up to track standard in the next 2 weeks!

I prob took the last RC5+s from KTec :p

I have been harsh on my brakes, but the regularity with which it happens made me think it was the pads or a sticking caliper. At 30 quid and 30 minutes work to change the disks ill give it another bosh with new pads and fluid and see what happens.

Regularity sounds like user error :p

Also the chances of actually "warping a disc" is pretty much impossible now a days, having high carbon discs. What you are describing is material pick up, which is where material from the brake pad is left on the disc causing the surface to be uneven, which causes steering wheel wobble and a horrid brake pedal feel. This is caused when "accessive use of the brake pedal" is used and then not cooled down properly. :p

When the pads get to track temperture they transfer material to the brake disc which helps them work even better. When you get brake fade, thats when they get to hot and a chemical reaction causes gas to form inbetween.

If you don't do cooling down laps and gradually bring down the temperture, the material will not be removed. Also bare in mind pads get considerably hotter than discs and are most probably 600-700 degrees if you come in straight off track. So when you park up this causes hot spots on the disc.

Thats how i understand it all, im sure someone who actually understands brakes will come along to correct me :D

Sounds about right, but I had no issues with the DS Performance pads (they faded, but never caused a vibration) but the DS2500s have resulted in 2 sets of new disks to fix vibrations.

I am going to cut down my run times and ensure I do a full lap cool down to try and make these last.

Changed the front discs and pads today to some Brembo HC and Carbone Lorraine RC6 pads, and while it was all apart i gave everything a good clean with a wire brush and copper greased all the bits that needed it. In the summer i'm planning to strip down the calipers, rebuild them and give them a lick of paint, but this will do until then.

First impressions of the RC6 after bedding them in (lots of sparks and smoke!) are that they are absolutely brutal. Proper rip your face off performance. Squeeking doesn't seem any worse than the RC5+ so thats a bonus, but i've not got them properly hot yet. I couldn't drive the car fast enough on the road to give them a proper kicking, as even at half pedal travel they were stopping the car very quickly.

Car is now ready for snetterton in a few weeks :)

Looking at trading in my 60 plate Zetec S with 16k miles for a 200 at the moment. I had a go in a 60 plate 200cup without the Recaro's today and loved it. It has 16,800 miles on the clock and was priced at 9.7k.

I really want a 200 with the Recaro's tho and thats what stopped me going ahead. Should I wait untill the new RS 200 comes out and see what people are trading in? I dont want to spend more then 10k including trade in on mine!

Also is there anything I should be looking for when looking for a Clio 200?

IT LIVES!

Garage just called, MOT is done, brakes are fixed. All I need to do now is tax it and she's back on the road, baby!

Given the work its taken to get it back on the road after 5 months I don't think I will bother next year.

Bedford at the end of the month, here I come!

Hey guys, can anyone give me any reason not to get a 172 cup as a daily?
My mate's selling his very cheap And I fancy something fun to drive!

Does it have standard suspension? I drove a non cup for a year on a 70 mile round trip commute and it was fine. However I now have Sportline springs and Cup shocks and the ride is unbearably harsh on longer trips.

If its on standard springs and you don't do massive commutes, go for it!

Went for my first little hoon in 6 months. God I missed my car.

All set for a trackday at the end of the month only to find it canceled :(. Easy Track are in some kind of trouble with MSV so everything's been cancelled and rumours are they have gone bust :(

anyone reckon a renaultsport clio would be a feasible car for me to get? been driving on and off since september 2009, only ever been insured on my mum's fiesta though. got ~2yrs no claims built up in that time i think, only ever had one incident when a tree jumped out in front of me... guess fuel economy would be the biggest issue?

Can't see why not. And they're not bad on fuel economy unless you have a heavy right foot everywhere you go.

I'm considering chopping in the 182 for a 200 now, some good examples for sub £10k!

On normal commuting my 172 does better economy than the GFs Mini Cooper.

If you drive carefully you can get over 40mpg.

The killer is insurance costs and the maintenance costs.

Insurance always was an issue when I was 20 and looking at 200's, I was looking at circa £1k, now I'm 23 I've insured my 200 with Admiral Multicar for £250.00 (two other cars on insurance).

I managed an indicated 46mpg in the 182 driving back from birmingham to nottingham yesterday, but only 33mpg driving the other way, totally different driving as i left home late.

Normally get around 35-38 mpg calculated on fuel used rather than computer reading, that's fairly mixed driving conditions (no motorway driving though). Obviously if you have a heavy right foot, or sit in traffic a lot it's easy to achieve mid to high 20's.

Wish my insurance was only £250 a year, i'm 30 now, and hoping to get below £600 at renewal, but i live in a bad postcode. when i was looking to get a mondeo diesel last year was getting quotes of around £1000.
