Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Started on my mk2 door cards today, only managed to get one done, but the other side will be 20 times faster as i now have a template. ( left side in the photos is mk1 door card :p ) They are proper ghetto, but cost me £6.99 each side iirc.

Went for my first little hoon in 6 months. God I missed my car.

All set for a trackday at the end of the month only to find it canceled :(. Easy Track are in some kind of trouble with MSV so everything's been cancelled and rumours are they have gone bust :(

If you have the monies, book snetterton for the 30th! :D

How do people get such high mpg in my old 172 I use to get 37-35 in my 182 I get 32 mostly town driving. On a run I only got around 37?? What could cause it? Or have I just got a thirsty one :p

Getting over 40mpg was a real challenge for me. Accelerating so slowly it hardly registered. But normal driving got me mid 30s easily.

I need a dished wheel, or a spacer.

Part of one of my arch liners broke on the way home so is now dragging along the floor. I need to decide if I will replace it or just ghetto fix it with some cable ties.

IT LIVES!
Does it have standard suspension? I drove a non cup for a year on a 70 mile round trip commute and it was fine. However I now have Sportline springs and Cup shocks and the ride is unbearably harsh on longer trips.

If its on standard springs and you don't do massive commutes, go for it!

It's got the cup pack and lowered 35mm all round (I think) And I will be using it to haul a downhill bike, sometimes two. I went up to taunton from torquay on sunday and it drank about 20 quid in fuel, which I think isn't too bad.
Would a reclining bucket help the comfort issue?

Also, what's the best tyres for the 172 cup, and the cheapest with decent grip/money ratio?

Hey guys. So I bought a 197...

Few questions regarding a bit of work that needs doing. It's heading into the garage on Friday.

First, the brakes are spongy and I'm guessing it needs new pads. The disks seem fine.
The wipers only seem to go one speed - slow. So I'm guessing they're either sticking or the motor is on its way out?
Finally, 2 advisories on the MOT that I want rectifying:
Slight play in nearside front suspension ball joint.
Slight play in steering rack inner joints.

What am I looking at here, ballpark?

Ballpoint wise, I'm not sure, but think that they only come as a whole hub assembly which are in the region of £200.

Brakes wise, if it has the Brembos, they might need stripping down and checking out. The seals can melt (for the pistons), and the pins can sieze in them and be awkward to remove, resulting in new pins being needed!

I managed an indicated 46mpg in the 182 driving back from birmingham to nottingham yesterday, but only 33mpg driving the other way, totally different driving as i left home late.

Normally get around 35-38 mpg calculated on fuel used rather than computer reading, that's fairly mixed driving conditions (no motorway driving though). Obviously if you have a heavy right foot, or sit in traffic a lot it's easy to achieve mid to high 20's.

Wish my insurance was only £250 a year, i'm 30 now, and hoping to get below £600 at renewal, but i live in a bad postcode. when i was looking to get a mondeo diesel last year was getting quotes of around £1000.

I have a 172 and do 9 miles to work and 9 miles back, this averages 38mpg for the tank if I drive carefully. Just renewed my insurance yesterday, £340 fully comp, but im 32 now :)

Long time no post!

Yesterday and Friday evening i replaced the following:

Rear shocks and brake disks and pads, no dramas.

Front Struts, top mounts + washer, one of the struts' bolts that held the spring down (which didn't need compressors) was stuck fast so just cut the whole lot off as I was only keeping the eibach spring, did hire an impact wrench for the top of the struts as someone had snapped off an allen key in the thread, this was £20 well spent.

Front disks and pads, again someone had put hex csk bolts on the disk rather than renaults torx screws, heated and then hammered in a T40 bit which shifted it no problem.

Front ball joints, passenger side fine, drivers side pinch bolt was stuck fast, had to remove the disk and use sledge hammer, which turned the bolt into a rivet, hammered it back as much as possible and then ground a chamfer and tried again, this time it came out no problems!

Oil Change and filter today, 4 new tyres tomorrow , only kumho k17s but at 273 fitted at my house is a bargain, car isn't tracked and used everyday for a 80 odd mile commute, so now point putting expensive rubber on.

The cars on 118k now and overdue an axillary belt change, with a cambelt in 20'000 miles or one year going by my annual milleage, should i just wait and do the whole lot in one go, dephaser, aux and tensioners, cambelt and water pump?

To say Im proud of the above work is an understatement, I can do elementary mechanical tasks, but changing out the struts somewhat phased me a little, but taking everything slow and methodical made it a breeze along with all the guides and forum posts on cliosport! Beering it up on a Sunday now as I have a day off tomorrow :D Few pics below!

Renaults new washer that elimates the "knocking" on full lock apparently

Absolutely knackered ball joint, i think with a car on lowered springs these should really be done every year which in my case should have been every 20,000 miles.

Nice work :) how long did it take you in the end?

I have a couple of new exhaust brackets to put on and front splitter as I have a crack in mine.

Do you know if the exhaust braket bolts have a torque requirement?
Also could you send me the guides you used on the struts as I have been looking for a good one on cliosport myself. Send them in trust if possible. :)

How do you find the eibachs? I am tempted by the cooksport route.

Does anyone here use a roof rack?

Could really do with one, but worried how it attaches at the rear. If its secure and if its going to damage my paint work!

Nice work daelo. I was the same, quite daunted by changing the struts myself, but well chuffed once I had done it. Needed a full alignment done after though as it will completely screw with all your tracking.

My car is going to go back into commuting action with my new job after 2 years of being a toy, so I'm a bit stuck as to what to do with it. It didn't really matter if it broke at a track day as I didn't need it for work, but now I will be driving it every day I'm worried about tracking it.

Part of me says bin it and buy a barge and a separate track car, but I don't have the money.

I've done 20k a year in mine skeeter, commuting and tracking. Lots has broke and service intervals are closer together :D

I would say a track day is the equivalent of 5000 miles on the road, so add this on to what your commuting is and that will give you an idea of how quickly things will break/need replacing. Going on this basis i've done around "80k miles" in 2 years, which would make sense with the amount i've had to replace.

In recent news...

So i got some sexy (pretentious) new door handles...my defence being they were cheap.

Got 5ltrs of Elf evolution coming in the post to treat the car to an oil change.

Weather/motivation dependent, im going to have a go at fitting the rear hub spacers/camber shims to the car. I also need to sort out securing the lexan windows now i've removed the motors and brackets, as there is nothing holding them in place :p Almost lost one going down the dual carriageway today :D

My new job comes with a car allowance and an expectation I will drive to customers. Not really suitable to try and do that in a track Clio prone to prolonged periods of being broken.
