Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I know that road well, and can't figure out how he's managed to crash there! I assume he's been in the wrong lane and tried to cut in as its one hell of a busy roundabout

Yea a bit random, my guess it looks a bit wet, hes come too fast left off the A33 and wants to continue left but has lost traction and off into the island :D

To get the sensor out on mine I had to heat around it with a blowtorch, then put a spanner over it and hit the spanner with a hammer. Came out a treat. Seemed to be the combination of heat and shock that got it out.

Ta.

Will give it a bash over the weekend. Worst comes to worst if I break it I was going to order a new one anyway :D

Also I know this has been covered to death no doubt but my car has the cup suspension pack on it and I noticed there isn't really much in the way of suspension upgrades until you start paying mega bucks. Would it be better refreshing the standard suspension and pairing it with Eibach springs or going for some coilovers. I've seen GAZ and Bilstein ones so far. K-Tec don't appear to be available until later in the year.

What do you use your car for?

I have cup shocks and Sportlines on mine and its tedious on the road for commuting, etc. Its so stiff and harsh. Its a great cheap way to improve track handling, but ruins it on the road.

If you are going to use yours on the road exclusively I would either keep suspension stock, or go for some decent adjustable coilovers that will give a more compliant ride.

I bought the car as I'd like to do some track-days as previously anything I've had I wouldn't risk on the track and it's something that I've always wanted to do. Now however I don't need a car to get to work as I walk and the car would literally only be used for going out on runs/track days and going down the A1 to visit the family on the weekend.

Well after 5 years of being a great car it is now time for my 172 to go :(. I have had many ups and downs but I can honestly say it has been one of the best cars I have had so far. So many times it had brought a smile to my face and running costs seemed to be so cheap!

Hopefully the replacement will be as fun (if not more) :D

Exactly what happened to me 2.5 years ago. Changed job where I got the train so the Clio was just for fun. 15" wheels, lower stiffer suspension, rear ARB and better brakes were quickly fitted and I've done 6 track days and loved it.

Trouble is, I'm now moving jobs again that will have me driving potentially all over the country. The Clio is utter **** for this, so I'm going go get a second car and then go all alexisonfire on the Clio :)

If its just for fun I would fit stock shocks and lower stiffer springs. The cup pack coilover options are so expensive they don't seem worth it. You could have so much fun with £1000 spending it other ways.

Cheers Skeeter.

I might hold fire and just wait for the K-Tec coilovers to be available again as reading back Alexisonfire doesn't seem to have any gripes with them and the money in the meantime would probably be better spent of other aspects of the car such as below.

I did over 300 miles in it today (mostly through the twisties in North Yorkshire) and had an absolute blast and my only gripe was that the tyres were shocking but they are some generic cheapo specials (I didn't buy them). Besides that the brakes could do with a bit more bite but I might sort out the same setup that was mentioned to Westyfield.

I'm in two minds with the Clio at the moment, do a lot of biking and it's getting tiresome throwing the bike in the back of it. Also don't want to ruin the poor thing.

I also don't use it as often as I want, round trip of 360~miles maybe once a month and that's it. I don't need a car for work or any other reason really.

I love it, and really want to throw money at her (shocks, springs, rear arb, new brakes).

Argh, do I keep her and get a cheap van or sell her and get a T4.

I don't want to see her go, and I think I'd regret it :(

For the money (i paid £299.99 a few years ago) they are really rather good. The springs are fairly stiff (same as H&R, bilstein etc) but they are really let down by the fixed damping which is just too soft in comparison with the stiffness of the springs. This means that although the coilovers reduce body roll and stiffen everything up, the shocks can't keep up with the springs. This is ok on long tracks but on the shorter stuff with lots of turns you really see the problem. An extreme example to explain what this means is that if you were to drive over a bump, you would get more than one bounce. Shocks should be valved to your spring rate and the ktec ones are underdampened. On a bumpy b road they are fairly terrible. Car skips and bounces around.

Despite all this though, im being very picky and for the money they are excellent. :p

I get ya! I did spy that there was a Blistein kit available for the cup chasis on the Kams racing website that look quite good but again it was quite expensive and it's a toss up if the extra cost (which is quite a bit in some cases) is worth what you get over something like the K-Tec kit.

Do you happen to know why the K-Tec kit isn't available at the minute? After what you've just said I'm not secretly hoping it's due to revising the issue you stated but it's most likely not.

In other news, ordered some HC Brembo's today though. Just need to decide on what pads to get.

Also another question to you 15" rim guys. Any of you have problems with driving around city centres/Country lanes?

Cleaned it :p

Strip it and track day it. Loads of fun, and means plenty of space in the back for your bike :D
