Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Very excited as i've just put my order in for a PMS Satchshift kit. The worst thing about my car is most certainly the gear linkage and gear stick position. It's too slack and it's highly annoying having to reach for 1st and 3rd gear (which is made even worse with buckets & harness). The whole gear linkage is replaced with a solid, rose jointed spherical bearing setup. I don't know the exact length but if its anything like the 106 example its around 30% extended too.

:D

Sounds expensive! :p

I just ordered Genuine Renault Timing Belt Kit, Aux Belt Kit, Dephaser, 2 Rear Shocks and Oil filter from Renault Wolverhampton for £324 delivered. Thanks to the above people for pointing the deals out! :D

So one of my shocks was fubar'd -

It slipped a bit on corners and I didn't have much confidence. Only driven it a few miles and can feel the difference already!

Thread is a tad long so I shall ask this Q

I'm going to view a 2007 RS 197 on the weekend, seller has had the Cam-belt, water pump and cylinder head seals done about 10k miles ago.

I'm not a naive person but anything I should be asking, looking for, feeling on test drive etc ?

I've read the buyers guide on the 197 forum but any help will be appreciated.

Check the gearbox for crunching, mainly in 2nd and 3rd - has it been replaced under warranty?
Listen for any rattles/squeaks and investigate the cause, check shock absorbers for any leaks (recent experience!). I would also check the buyer's guide on Cliosport for 172/182 - there's some similar things to check for in there.

How did your car feel prior to the new shocks mate? I got a small issue and im sure its the rear shocks

As Maccy said. It should feel really floaty in the back and seem unstable too.

I once followed a guy through a sweeping lefthander who had knackered rear shocks and it look like he was having to correct it constantly.

Nice oil leak on that one Maccy :p

To add to that, there's a bit on my way to work where the back would feel like it's slipping just coming off a roundabout - felt fine this morning!

Yea I think they are totalled.. I thought the back end was going to come out after hitting a bump on the local dual carriageway

I am sure you could get a decent 182 with some haggling at 2500.

But at that price range you really have to make sure cam/aux belt has been done as a 182 priced around the £2k mark must need something doing to it to be worth so little. As good 172 prices are around the £2k mark.

A full service history is definitely appreciated. But the Cam/Aux belt is the big one really, circa £500 ish job from a specialist. Otherwise it is the usual, Full Fat / Cup Pack / Mods. Check to see if there is any rattling from the left hand side of the engine. Could suggest dephaser or carbon canister issues. Neither of these are car killers, just minor annoyances really.

am i right in thinking i should be able to get a decent 182 for 2000-2500? what sort of things should I be looking out for?

I paid £1600 for mine, but it needed belts and dephaser (£560), tryes all round (£300), Disc and pads (£300), and a few other bits and pieces to sort it out. It soon adds up and that bargain £1600 buy soon doesn't look so great.

Happy with my purchase though, and still think i did ok.

spotted a 182 for sale at leamington reno dealers, £4500!!! i just laughed, both headlight seals had gone as well
