Who here owns a Subaru?

Don't worry I'm in no rush to get rid. It will be advertised for a strong price and if it doesn't sell then I'm not fussed. The gauges and baffled sump are worth £1k on their own, let alone all the other stuff.

Work is a bit rubbish at the moment (pay is fine) and I'm looking at avenues to get out. I'd like to take my focus off the car for a while, train myself up a bit better and have a bigger lump sum in the bank for a bit so I can maybe take some chances with my career. Especially now that the wife is earning a full time wage too!

But we'll see what happens when I actually pluck up the courage to put it up for sale!

Indeed it is.

I am in no debt other than my mortgage. The car was bought over 5 years ago with savings so doesn't owe me anything in that aspect.

I did have a nice chunk of money in the bank last year, but then.. I got married :D

The plus side is the wife is now starting her first year as a newly qualified teacher and therefore will have an ok income instead of just everything coming from me. So maybe I can take the chances without risking the Subaru. But it's going up for sale and we'll go from there.

If it doesn't sell I may go silly on it... ;)

I would like to keep it, as I say I don't need the money nor do I have any issues running it. Sometimes work does take a priority.. but we'll see!

Phil, can do. Are you still on my Facebook? Can't see you.. but yeah I can certainly let you know once the advert goes live :)

2.5s had everything wrong going for them from the outset.

The block itself is weak and moves around a lot, due to thin liners especially in comparison with the 2.0s. Causing head gasket failure quite a lot. Easily solved with decent head studs, be it thicker or stronger.

The pistons and rings were no where near the quality of the items found in the 2.0 STi equivalents.

The above was further highlighted by an awful map on the ECU!

So to have a healthy 2.5 it needs in order of importance:

Remap as a minimum
Head gasket done recently with good heat studs
Fully forged rebuild including all of the above!

Don't be so shocked too much! The wife is constantly telling me she doesn't want me to sell it surprisingly and I need to do a couple of tidy up jobs before it goes up for sale anyways :)

Did Castle Combe yesterday... what an awesome track! Obviously did a sprint layout on it. So fast, so fluid. Awesome! Really really loved it!

Few more of the other guys launching:

AndyF (anywhere between 700-1000bhp depending on what setting he had on!):

AndyH (400 odd bhp):

Justin A (500 odd bhp):

Dbrad (600odd bhp):

P555SPR (300 and something ish bhp):

Johnfelstead (480bhp ish):

One of my Combe laps from Saturday:

Not my fastest run this one at 1:23.85, but the camera died after this run.

Ended up at 1:21.56 with my final run. Feel that I could have gone 1:20 at best?

Tyres are way beyond their best and the back end was very loose. Definitely need to knock the rear ARB to the lower setting or fit a front ARB also. Just didn't have the confidence to chuck the car into the corner without fear of the rear coming around on me!

However, this was so far my favourite event!

Anyway, video of the 1:23 lap below, my brother being the Co-Driver :D

I would say that is more than a fair price. Not too cheap, not too expensive. Just about right.

Yeah 265PS from the factory so really between 250-260bhp. Power can be extracted so so easily up to around 340bhp though if you want more. :)

Looks respectable, but I'm unsure to why it hasn't sold for so long which makes me question the car.

The asking price is high, but it's a iconic car and does have a following. I may go view it, but I'm also browsing scoobynet for some examples.

I'd like a Wagon, but I can't find anything I like. This took my eye a few months back and I do like the way that it's light and standard look.

Do these have closed deck engines? I always thought red tops were closed deck.

Don't concern yourself about whether or not it has a closed deck block. Means nothing unless you're power chasing as the block casing is stronger. But a standard car, open deck, semi open deck or closed deck won't make the slightest difference :)

Cool.:) I looked at so many and I was starting to get bored where I was seeing the same ones over and over again and realising how long some had been for sale etc when one evening I logged on to Auto trader and came across mine. I stood out because it was only 9 miles from me, everything I was looking for, a decent price, really nice condition and completely standard. I literally rang them the next morning, arranged a viewing that evening and then put a deposit down on it shortly after. :D

I'm probably going to leave it standard for the time being but people keep telling me I'll get used to the power and wont be able to resist after that. :D

Oh yeah and i'm only the third local owner too. The last guy got bored of people trying to race him. Haha!

Let's see how long you last ;)

These arrived last week

Whiteline 24mm rear anti roll bar and a decat downpipe.

The whiteline will be going straight on but the decat will stay in the garage till i get a few other bits so i can do it all and get a remap straight away.

Also pretty much finished off my track tyres with a track evening last week so dunno what to go for next, Federal 595RSR's look ok and am tempted by those nankang NS2R's

Have you got a front ARB yet? If not, fit the 24mm rear arb on the softest. Trust me when I say it makes the tail happy on aggressive turn in on medium without a front arb. Nearly caught me out a couple of times. Makes it nice and adjustable mid corner, but may be too tail happy off the throttle for some.
