Who here owns a Subaru?

Well having recently sold mine and having had the amount of interest I had in it I can say that's how I know. Within less than 7 days of putting up my breaking advert, I had a deposit for the whole car, minus a selection of parts to meet the buyers budget.

People are willing to pay for the right cars. As I said, too many bad examples out there, or with bad modifications power/styling or otherwise and that puts people off. A nice clean looking car with a proper history seems to have no issues selling.

I completely understand where you're coming from, don't get me wrong. There's a classic STi on Sn at the moment for £7999 for example and he wonders why it's not shifting.

I want to replace my A4 Quattro with a newer AWD car. From looking around my choices are pretty limited and I think I have settled on a Impreza WRX as it ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Unfortunately the WRX-S entered the market in 2010 and my budget does not stretch that far.

If I were you I'd consider going a bit older for a hawkeye estate or something. Not sure where the GB270 estate sits in price these days for example. I don't think a hatch WRX is going to be anything but a bit meh and not worth that kind of money. But a bit older, with a PPP or similar mods would do well I think :)

Now if it was a US hatch then I'd say differently, but the hatch WRX the UK got was a bit bland.

It is now on 85k miles, and the only thing wrong with it, is that the steering pump belt squeals for a couple of seconds when you start it. Saying which has probably cursed the thing...

Funny you mention that, my Dad's WRX had the same thing 2 weeks ago. Replaced the belt and all is well again, but am assuming the pump is possibly on the way out as the steering is quite stiff when cold despite new fluids.

Not for a Nur Spec R. That's a catback system.

Be worth getting new gaskets for it, if it's a standard system, 2.5" gasket for the centre and 3" for the backbox.

Missing it... at times. I've not replaced it, and have no intention to replace it for the time being, given that saving is the priority. I may buy something as an interim to sample other cars, but it would be something I can buy, run and then sell for minimal loss.

So I'm just driving my 306 estate for now (had it for years) and occasionally the wife's Fiat 500.

Yeah I know James.

Price is high, but it is low mileage and has some decent mods.

I've not actually seen the car in the flesh unfortunately, although I'm sure plenty of people did when it was on display for Opies Oils at Japfest...

Anyway, a video from my visit to Curborough last week (not me driving - I was merely a spectator on the day)

How common are engine failure/replacement on the hawk eye wrx s? Seen a few recently that have had rebuilds or replacement at seemingly low miles (around 65-75k) and not sure if it means not to bother or whether its common enough...

The WRX 2.5s seem to be more reliable than the STi 2.5s, but still not regarded as a very reliable engine like the 2.0s of old.

However, regular maintenance, checking of coolant and oil, and you should be ok with a well maintained example.

Recently I've seen a LOT of pre DCCD models be advertised for silly prices, they all seem to be dealer cars though..

Good ones are getting rarer. I know I'm going to regret selling mine even more when I get round to buying one again.
