Who here owns a Subaru?

Because I was saving for a house.

After buying said house and living here for 3 months I have much more left than I originally sold the car for... so more fool me. Clearly I didn't need to sell it :(

Never mind.

Test driving the latest STi in December, expecting to be underwhelmed and therefore hoping to find a Spec C of sorts instead when I come to buy.

It can't. The five-speed box is notoriously the weak point of modded WRXs, and usually goes bang at around 340bhp - although driving like you stole it can see the box out at 320 or so. Usually it's third that breaks. It's very common with people who slap bigger turbos in without the necessary supporting mods.

O I know, I've broken one ! On my Dad's original TD05 powered bugeye WRX I managed to snap 2nd!

Fixed under warranty somehow.. Then he went on to ruin 1st when launching it at Santa Pod. Again fixed under warranty. Got his money's worth from his extended warranty I tell you!

The only problem with that is that even the bad ones are still at a good money, making it harder and harder to find a decent one.

Which for me.. causes issues! Hence I went to test drive the newest one yesterday.. genuinely interested in it because it looks so good and feels a lot more modern. But crikey it felt slow. I've requested a longer test drive to see how it really feels, but I really was quite unimpressed with the speed of it.

But then after watching various YouTube reviews I found that it just about gets sub 13.5sec 1/4 mile times. My old WRX with an exhaust system did 13.1 so seems a bit too slow for an STi IMO. But definitely explains why it felt slow.

Then I watch my old 12.1 video (360ish bhp at the time) and remember just why I enjoyed that car so much. Hammering through the gears, revving out past 7500rpm. Maybe I need to go JDM..

I first read about this when Kev (ScoobyClinic owner) posted on the MidlandsScoobies forum, basically saying the customer was a bit of a numpty. Fast forward to Sunday night and the MLR thread, Scoobynet thread and others were all hot.

The video is bad, but the lack of appropriate response from the owner has really not helped..

I'm starting to realise what a fanboy I am!

I can't think of any other car that interests me enough to buy instead of a Subaru/Evo/GTR.

Sad really.. but when I look at other cars I think "too slow, crap sound, too heavy, not mod friendly, too expensive to maintain, blah blah"

Then I look at JDM turbo AWD cars and practically plan out my whole future with them!
