I've just bought a new HP pavilion and I'm very happy with the machine.
However I'm totally fed up with all the rubbish HP insist on installing with the system and the errors this rubbish generates.

I'm thinking of buying an OEM copy of Vista and starting all over again, simply downloading all the drivers from the HP site.
I know this adds to the cost of the machine but its driving me nuts.

Providing you have a valid licence code on the back of the laptop, you can use any install disk to perform the installtion using this code. I have a set of install disk i use so customers don't have to provide disks.

However, I have found that with most HP and Dell laptops, the on-line windows activation fails but a 5 minute call to Microsoft activation centre sorts this out in no time.

See my post above.

I must be in a different time continuum, when I posted I couldn't see your post despite the time difference :)
So are you saying that I can use an OEM copy of Vista that I have lying around simply because the machine I am installing it on has already had a valid copy of Vista previously installed?

AFAIK an OEM copy of Vista can only be used on 1 machine ever.

Which is the case here. He has a Vista license, he wants to reinstall Vista on the same machine, should be fine. The hardware he is installing it on isn't changing.

If you have a valid license for the machine you are installing it on then you can use any appropriate media to install it. Licenses and install media are seperate things.
