Hi guys, getting married in July and looking at album options at the mo. Will be going down to the Focus show at the NEC this weekend to have a look but I'd like to hear some first hand experience from people who have dealt with story books before.

We (photographers I work at) use Mario Acerboni albums at the moment and don't offer storybooks.

Ideally I'd like a storybook for my own wedding but would like a really good quality one so would like to hear your recommendations.

I've gone for a queensbury album for my wedding not sure if they do storybooks but they were very good quality

Rip off imo :)

The quality on the Loxleys is as good if not better yet you'll pay stupid amounts for a QB due to the name, when they aren't anything amazing for the money you pay imo.

Who's doing your wedding?

guy collier is doing the wedding and weddings are just one big rip off so you get used to it :o

Ah ok cool stuff.

I know of another photographer who uses Queensbury and I was wondering if I had just down right insulted what he supplys :D

Well had a Jorgensen rep in and really liked their fusion books. A mix of storybook and mounted photos. Really looked good. I will take a look at loxley, I think I saw them at the focus show but didn't have time to have a look!

Varys a lot...anywhere between the £200-£500 mark to buy.

sorry to hijack thread but i need advice

do they offer a bulk discount?

i've been looking at Loxley and and the photographer has set aside £500 to put towards albums.

we have already had a "pre-wedding" shoot which we managed to get 50-60 really good pictures from 4-6 hours worth of shooting. the photographer was only aiming to get 15, but he spent some extra time with us, was only meant to be 3 hours but turned into a lot more.

the photographer has also been booked for 2 small pre wedding parties (50-100 guests each), 3 small functions, the wedding day and reception.

so roughly 6 separate day's in total when you add them all up.

haven't really decided on how to do things yet, but i told him we want copies of all the "final" shots on dvd as well as them made into albums/books.

now i was thinking

big album/book - for wedding day (2 copies)
big album/book for reception (2 copies)
big album/book for pre wedding shoot (2 copies)
smaller album/book for each pre wedding party (2 copies of each party so 4 in total)
same size as above album/book for her functions (2 copies)
same size as above album/book for my functions (1 copy)

so that's 13 albums/books in total

then there will be canvas's, etc on top of all that, maybe even some acrylics, etc.

does the above look right to you? how would you do it? obviously i will speak to my photographer for their view, but i just want to make sure i know what i'm talking about before doing so.

also what is the difference between an album and a story book? does the book just have the pictures printed on the pages? whereas an album is the classic style of photo's stuck onto card.

what size of album's / books would you recommend?

the photographer was skyping with us talking about coffee table books, etc and we didn't have a clue.

i'll tell you why we need 2 copies also, the wife to be will be moving in with me and my family, so we need 1 copy for us and my family, the other copy will be for her parents.

possibly could make her parents copies smaller to save money i suppose.

also what would you guesstimate as a price for all of the above? the photographer has already allocated £500 of our quote to the albums but just wondering how much on top of that it would take.

Wow, thats some wedding you've got planned there! I reckon your looking at a good 2-3 grand for the albums if you go for really good quality ones which I assume you will be given the lavish nature of events once you've factored in the cost of buying and designing them.

Wow thats a fair whack!

I won't reply whilst I'm at work as it won't be a proper one, I'll reply tonight in depth for you.

Personally I think you could save a lot of money by just having 1 copy. I know you said you wanted two copies however I personally think that only you should have a copy of everything. It'll make for a nice day when you have family over and you can get the books out and all have a look together (I'm not sure if I have portrayed what I wanted correctly, but hope you get the idea of where I am going with this).

1 copy means that a) it's cheaper and b) when you go places/people come over you can go through it with them over a coffee or something and it'll be more special. Maybe give parents photos, but not the books.

it's a sikh wedding, it's actually quite small for a sikh wedding, my cousin who is getting married 2 weeks before us is having a huge engagement party on top of all of the above in a month's time and his pre wedding parties are going to be a lot bigger too. i want things to be more special and only invite close friends and family, our reception for example will only have roughly 300-400 people at it from both sides combined, his will easily have 600 at it. same goes for his pre wedding party, it will easily have 200+ people at it, im aiming for 50-100. his engagement party is going to be huge too.

this is how most weddings are done within our community.

we have made a deal, since the spotlight is going to be on us and our families on the big day's, we aren't really allowed to go "crazy" and get drunk, etc, need to be civilized and just chill out on the day. so im going to go wild at his wedding and he is going to do the same at mine. :D

hmm, her parents imo deserve a copy, i think then maybe it will be better to get their copies made a lot smaller, both size and depth? maybe just pick the absolute best pictures, etc. keep the size down. will need to speak to her parents when they come back (they are away doing wedding shopping in india). or maybe just get them "parent" books another thing our photographer was going on about, we didnt have a clue what it was, maybe it's his name for small books?

there are so many different parts and traditions with sikh weddings, i don't even know them all, things like jago, ladies sangeet, milni, mehndi, etc they all add up, that's why we are having our reception on a different day to our wedding, split it all over 2 days so it's easier for us.

(go to the collections section on the "site" there you can see all the different photo's)

this is our photographer, imo he is the best asian phtographer in the world (talking about photographers who specialize in punjabi weddings here), we have booked him to come all the way from london, there isn't a single decent asian photographer in scotland, trust me i have seen all of the ones that everybody else uses work and they are terrible. people show me their albums and im like WTF, the asian photographers up here have no competition and still shoot the same way they did back in the 80's. the only effects they know how to use are black and white, then they also do the dodgy, black and white with some bits of colour in it, really tacky stuff imo. but they still charge expensive prices, i managed to get this guy for a good price in comparison. have booked his hotel, just need to book his flights now, he has an assistant, his wife who helps him.

this is similar to what i will be wearing on my wedding day

i have a ted baker suit i will be wearing at the reception, im looking forward to it all.

again sorry for the thread hijack

you had a chance yet to make an in depth reply up?

the wedding is less than 3 month's away and ideally need canvas's etc before hand so they can be put at the entrance of the reception, or i was thinking kid's may touch them, etc ruining them.

so i don't know maybe a few poster's instead from a professional printer we have used in the past and makes really good posters using proper industrial printers.

because i wouldn't want to pay hundreds on a canvas and then some kid at the reception put's his dirty hands all over it.

Not yet, sorry I'm bogged down with project work at work at the minute so I'm getting home late and going straight to bed.

Tonight, scouts honour :)
