Who misses the N64?

The N64 had some great games but in terms of hardware it was poor. The control seemed to designed for someone with 3 hands, the rejection of CD storage seriously reduced the scope of some it games and the graphics were disappointing. If Nintendo could have not made these mistakes i think it would have really challenged the PS1 in terms of sales.

Any way of getting it to work on my monitor? (has vga and dvi). I have looked online but adaptors are £40 - Which I am not paying!

Would be nice if I could play Goldeneye with friends when in halls as long as it can be done for a reasonable price.

I miss the N64 I loved playing Golden Eye, Mario 64, Super Smash Bros, Quake 1 & 2, Duke Nukem 64, Doom 64, Zelda, Command and Conquer, any many many more amazing console.

I actually still own my N64 just dunno where the controller or any games are, I will have to get few bits n bobs in the new year to add to my retro collection So I shall be updating that thread soon!

N64 still lives on under my hd tv :D Love it! Just wish I hadn't sold some of the more random games on it... yeah the graphics wern't always amazing and so on but it was the last console where true enjoyment came from the structure of the game and now how it looked :D

Yeah the social side was awesome. Everyone being in the same room made it a bit more intense.

Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye and Mario Golf caused many an argument back in the day!

I would miss it but the wii golden eye advert shows me that my N64 gaming is best left in the memory. Still have it and all my games somewhere. Goldeneye, Pefect dark, jet force gemini, diddy kong racing, The zelda's, mario 64/kart, starfox. Had some great split screen gaming that online gaming just doesnt recapture!

WcW wrestling game omg immense! (was huge WWF fan)

Perfect dark
golden eye
starfox
mario kart
Star Wars: RACER
Zelda ocania of time (hated playing this game but appreciate its quality)
World is not enough (really good game)

yeh i miss it :P

There were parts of Ocarina of Time I hated, but I started a play through on Wii VC with a walkthrough to reduce back tracking on foot, check lists for what I'd collected and I couldn't put it down until I was about half way.

It doesn't seem to have lost much of it's magic (apart from the stone of agony).

N64 is my favourite console of all time.

Jet Force Gemini
Mario Kart 64
Banjo-Kazooie
GoldenEye
Perfect Dark
Super Mario 64
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Body Harvest
Star Wars Rogue Squadron
Star Wars Episode 1: Racer
Star Wars Shadows Of the Empire

I don't think any console has come close in giving me this many great games!

Mario 64 has to be one of, if not the, best games ever. Wouldn't have admitted that in 97 :)

Picked myself up a copy off eBay for the prize sum of £3. Complete in box with all the manuals. It ain't going anywhere :D Got a boxed Rumble Pak while I was at it.

Had some great days when I was younger just playing Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing, Snowboard Kids. Will never forget completing Facility on 00 difficulty in under 2:05 to get invincibility, utter utter joy after a good 2 days of trying

Still fire my N64 up every now and then, but its not the same without having mates round.

There's some great game mentioned here.

A few more :)

Pilot Wings
1080 Snowboarding
ISS Pro
Zelda: Majora's Mask

The N64 was made of gold!

//edit!

If Nintendo could have not made these mistakes i think it would have really challenged the PS1 in terms of sales.

It's debatable whether these were mistakes. Financially, probably. Games wise, certainly not. Visually PS titles tended to look grainy and pixelated, and the CD loading times were horrible. Imagine OoT or Mario 64 using the CD tech available then *shudders* Infact the best games I remember from that generation would have been worse for it. Not sure where you were going with the three hands remark btw - as a single analogue pad it was supurb and didn't compromise digital or analogue placement (something which can't be said of current pads). In the end it all comes down to gameplay, and here the N64 was king. Controlling a 3D Mario for the first time - tiptoeing, running, climbing trees and long jumping, there'd never been anything like it and it was great :)

I remember playing 1080 snowboarding so much that the controller stick gave me a blister on my thumb - couldn't play for a week after that!
The N64 was awesome but most of the games are available on the Wii VC and the classic controller doesn't hand out thumb blisters :p
