Who to ring to make noise complaint

If the music is insanely loud then phone police to have a word, however you may have a wait on a friday night.

They will tell you to phone the environment department of the local council and give you the number. You phone them and complain. You phone them each time it is noisey and out of hours they send someone to listen and make note of the noise. Then it escalates to recording equipment then they get a warrant to sieze the offending noise making gear (unless someones having noisey relations......). If all that fails they take the person/landlord to court!

This is not necessarily within the police remit as if it is just general noisey neighbours its not for them to deal with. If however someone is holding a rave in a living room then they would probably attend.

\\edit: 101 is the non-emergency number however not every police force operates the 101 scheme.

I don't understand why people should put up with, and worse still, expect unnecessary and unwanted disturbance? Everyone should respect other peoples' right to peace, especially in a residential area. There are places specifically built for making all the noise you want (clubs).

When my neighbours are loud TIME TO ON THE HIFI BABY. Sound extremely immature but do something annoying yourself? Like hire a jackhamme? J/k

Phone the police from a phonebox, tell them they have a gun, the noise will be gone in 5 minutes tops. :)

Don't do this.

Flaming dog **** on the doorstep could be a good idea here. Might only turn down the noise for a little while but it's a lot of fun to watch and you should feel a whole lot better.

But at 9pm, on a Friday? Come on, it's not unreasonable to expect a bit of noise at that time.

Morba has given the best advice so far.

So if a guys been using a foghorn as a joke around his neighbourhood, its fine because its a Friday and only 9pm?

Too much noise is too much noise, no matter the time of day, night, week, weekend.

Generally very very few people complain about the odd party, if someones asking about complaining, the what I assume to be common sense assumption is, the noise is worse than a single loudish party on a Friday night, in which case, he has every right to complain.

If someone was using a foghorn, then that's a simple case of phoning the police as it's in breach of numerous laws and beyond reasonable; no matter what time of the day it was. Though I assumed (perhaps wrongly, we do not know) that it wasn't quite 'that bad' otherwise the OP wouldn't be on a forum asking for advice before contacting the authorities.

The common sense approach would be if someone can handle the noise long enough to post on a forum asking for advice and then wait for said advice to come then the noise isn't that bad. I can imagine that the OP was/is worried that the noise would carry on until the unreasonable hour and wanted to know what to do if such was true.

Shredder, he will bust up through the floor and sort them out

have been in the same situ.. Ask the *********** to turn it down, give them half hour... if it goes back up (which mine still does) then local council noise team.. (who only work sociable hours..just) if it gets to 5 am in the morning.. then police..

then wake up nice and early and have your own party during sensible hours.. they cant complain, but theyre headaches will :D
