Does anyone here? I'm guessing with digital SLRs you can take a pic and look at it and think, "too dark" and make the adjustment.

I just wondered if anyone here used light meters from the off?

I have one. Sometimes I use it if I'm using flash, other times I just chimp it. If I'm not using flash, I generally just use the camera to meter.

I have one somewhere from when I did more stuff in a studio, but don't really use it now.

I use a light meter with my mamiya when i use the waist level finder and when using dedicated flashy units in a studio. The only other time i use a light meter is when doing exposures that are longer than 30 seconds.

I had a go of one the other day when I was trying out a studio set up for the first time. Decided looking at the image + histogram worked better :p Guess they are more useful when shooting in a studio using film though.

Studio - Yes, while setting up flash and choosing aperture for pretty much the whole session.
Outside - No.

Studio - always

If lights changing I'll often use my meter rather than rely on the camers built in meter, even though I always shoot nefs - it's a habit that's carried over from shooting Velvia in the bad old days.
