Who will ditch 580 for 6900

well ATI drivers suck the poodles privates even if the 6900 is more powerfull in real life uses ive found you need use different drivers to get the best out of different games with ATI,

I think ati need start fresh with thier drivers and forget the older cards have a new set of drivers , i personally wont be buy ati ever again, and yes people with ATI will prolly wanna flame me but hey im speaking from experiance

im not saying they cant make fast cards they just dont make the drivers to back them up

Pure trolling there... Nice going.

DONT bother posting if all your going type is crap..

You dont seem to be able to install ATI software do you?

Really happy with my with my 5870 2gig, even though I could afford to upgrade again cant see the point for now it runs everything I want it to just fine.

Enough with the drivers already.
Thread after blinking thread.

FACTS there are enough people with ATI & NV cards to know what works best for them & they know themselves what each cards drivers are about & no one here needs telling if there drivers are a problem for them.
This topic is not here for your opinion on drivers be it NV or ATI. There are plenty of driver threads when drivers are released & keep it there.

For me, a lot depends on whether Nvidia add true HD Audio bitstreaming for the 580 to a future HD Audio driver update, not happy with PCM only on TrueHD and DTS-HD formats.

More than happy with the performance of the card but the lack of HD Audio bistreaming is a major downside for me as i'm using my machine as a HTPC/Gaming rig in the lounge

I know I have a 480.. but I too used to have ati had two Hd 4890s I had very little problems until the new ati came out than started having problems so I went over to nvidia when the price was right. Now the machine does what its supposed to do and very well.. I'm not rating it didnt with ati I've had ati for years.. had few problems with them but in the end those slight problems turned to bsods and started to become annoying. With nvidia every game seems to work with no fuse. So more time to.enjoy ownership rather than problem solving.. I still will recommend ati through

I've had ATI cards ( nvidia too ) since the times of ATI Rage and Radeon 7500 and I can't remember any serious problems that weren't due to OS problem or game itself.

How come? Just luck ?

Nope I'm very pleased with my 580. And as others have already pointed out, it may be slightly faster (or not), but it would still only be a side-grade really.

im reasonably happy with my 580, 90% happy 10% not
im just ****** that it doesnt clock as well as others
you would think that a company who endorse an overclocking tool would have reasonably good clocking cards
saying that, its not exactly needed an oc on these cards, its just when you start benching you cant stop
so
unless AMD do something extra extra special ( which i cant see ) i will not be ditching my 580

Havent got either of them atm will wait. Have always owned both cards never had a problem with ATI drivers, prefer the Nvidia drivers for look and feel. It annoys me as I know people personally who admit that they will post on threads like this slating ATI drivers saying they have owned the cards knowing its a stick to beat them with, hence keeping people on the ATI drivers suck bandwagon.

Gj, man you shoulda waited for the 6970, so close as well.:p

Driver issues are non existant if you can, you know resist the urge to upgrade to a new driver that says it has fixes FOR ISSUES YOU DON'T HAVE, and insist on using it anyway. That goes for AMD and Nvidia.

As for the 6970, I would normally suggest that even if it wins the difference will be sub 10% to a 580gtx either way, and you quite literally won't notice it anywhere but Vantage.

Now the VERY interesting thing is, the 6970 might actually smash the 580gtx in certain situations, and before you get all uppity with theres no way, power management.

Its NOT at all like the Furmark'ing limit Nvidia have introduced, AMD already had power protection circuitry on the 5870.

The power management seems to be to dynamically INCREASE clocks when the TDP is low enough.

Keep this in mind, the 580gtx can use 350W without the power limiting in furmark, it will use 300W give or take with the limiter intact, in games it will use 250-270W it would seem.

What the dynamic clocks might mean is, in Furmark lets say the card is 250W, in Crysis its only using 215W, the card can use 250W tdp fine but no more, what if in Crysis it could use 250W, it doesn't load enough of the core to actually use 250W but what if the card can dynamically increase core speed to use the FULL 250W, so raise clocks, like Turbo can, to maintain 250W tdp output.

Thats all well and good but if you overclocked beyond that, like with Nvidia the tdp would limit you, which is why the TDP "limit" is also overclockable.

This could mean for instance that you can set a 1Ghz overclock, set the tdp to 300W, and while it would still run 1Ghz in Furmark, in Crysis it might be able to clock up to 1.2Ghz to fill the TDP gap.

Thats where the 6970 might be insanely impressive, it might be 10% behind, or 10% ahead at stock, but if it can dynamically clock up in games it could gain another 10-20%, it might not obviously the slides aren't complete but the power management things mentioned are certainly not Furmark limiting things at all because AMD already have safety circuitry to prevent Furmark drawing more ampage through the VRM's than they can handle, which is what could cause 4870 crashes.

Its still unlikely to be worth an upgrade, though if you can cash in on the 580gtx and get some sucker to buy it off you for £400, and buy a 6970 at closer to £300 it wouldn't be a half bad sidegrade with a bit of cash to boot ;)

If the 6970 comes in, with essentially Turbo mode like on cpu's, at stock being basically on par with a 580gtx, and being significantly cheaper, you'd be mad to buy a new 580gtx. The 470gtx will still be great value for a while, and firesale 480gtx's could be a good option, but a 580GTX is likely to seem like a very poor purchase in a couple of weeks.

Sadly, you don't know what drivers are :(

Really, does nobody realize this thread is a trollfest?

Sorry I am aware of this. Just my poor English and rush to type a post whilst at work with boss hovering over me. This often means my post either don't make sense or imply something entirely different to what I mean.
