Who will ditch 580 for 6900

Asus GTX580 has OCing turbo mode on the fly as well & its covered by the warranty as long as you use the Asus util just saying.............

What I will laugh about is how as soon as the 6970 arrives Nvidia will unleash the GTX595 beast :D

Sorry I am aware of this. Just my poor English and rush to type a post whilst at work with boss hovering over me. This often means my post either don't make sense or imply something entirely different to what I mean.

I'm fairly sure you cannot distinguish between control panels and drivers, still. Don't worry, you're not the only one here.

I don't have a 580GTX but when the 69xx cards come out I'll be deciding between the 580GTX and 6970. I'd like to wait for the 6990 but that just seems too far away.

I'd like to think I'll buy whichever card works out best on a bang-for-buck basis.

However I currently have it in my head that Nvidia cards are hot and noisy and the 580GTX is just Nvidia's second attempt at getting the 480GTX right. It just seems like they were having such a hard time getting their heads around DirectX11 that when they finally managed it they released the cards quickly as they were already so far behind ATI. In the time since that they've gone back and tried to make the 400 series into the card it should've been and they came up with the 580GTX. Buying Nvidia feels like I'm rewarding their trial and error approach.

ATI seem to have the hardware side of it done a little more professionally, but their drivers don't seem to be the highest priority for them. although personally I can't say I've noticed any more problems with the ATI drivers than the Nvidia ones.
But judging by the 58xx launch I'm wondering if ATI will actually have enough units out at launch to satisfy demand. If they can't plan far enough in advance to ship enough cards then I don't feel like waiting around until they decide to make a few more cards and send them to the UK. If Nvidia ship enough over here for launch, maybe the want my custom more than ATI.

Or I may just try to pick up another 5870 cheap (after the 69xx launch) and crossfire with my current 5870.

But if I had a 580GTX, no I wouldn't ditch it for a 69xx in the same way I didn't ditch my 5870 for a 480GTX just because it outperformed it.

that just sums up the stupidity of your posts in general and your lack of knowledge and understanding of anything computing related.
have a nice day :)

You're a silly sausage Cyber-Mav. Nothing changes with you.

Your basic reading comprehension skills are a joke and before you say that I'm insulting or whatever, take a look at your reply to half of a quote without including everything just so you have a chance to cause an argument as well as poo flinging.

Quote ALL what he said and then reply. Otherwise you're exposing your true intentions with your addition to this thread. AKA Trolling.

I would buy either Nvidia or ATI, the driver part is nothing I'd even consider with no problems through personal use with various cards as well as through building, repairing and handling of others equipment.

Also it's obvious that the die hard tech fans will jump on any new top end card to see what it's all about. There's people that buy to play and enjoy and there's others who like to tinker. So the people who like to tinker will most likely buy (but* oops) it but the ones who want to play will hang on till there's something out that shows a significant difference.

As some people have said, if the 6970 is faster then some people will swap their gtx580 just like they did with their gtx480 for a 15% gain.

If you have the money, you may as well have the fastest you can get.

Myself personally, I think I'll be sticking with my two gtx470's for some time. There is nothing which makes them struggle (which I want to play) and unlikely a 6970 will match my gtx470's in SLI anyway.

However, if the 6970 is 10%+ faster than a gtx580 and overclocks like a demon past 1ghz and comes in at £300, I think I'll swap over to two of them just for a change/laugh.

There is nothing wrong with the gtx480.. its not really that hot ethoir not with a fan profile anyway. It's only cos of nvidias competition that made you say that.. at the right price the gtx480 is a gem.

Baring in mind the gtx480 is a bit faster than a hd5870.. I only paid radeon money for mine.

Ati do not have bad drivers unless you have a card of a older eol gen than you will or could run into problems

How are you sure, your ouija board tell you ? It was a lazy post and perhaps I deserve to be ridiculed over it.

Anyhow on the post subject I am sure some people might if someone posts a benchmark of it going 3 fps more in crysis (even if they don't play it). I am finding it hard to justify upgrading my gtx 295 still though with the current games I play.

Should ati fix their crap scaling of the 5800 series with the 6970/6990 I wouldn't mind bagging either a pair/trio of 6990's or 6970's, trusting they come in 2gb (per gpu) flavours.

Also, some may want to check out LAB501's recent review of the hydra platform. Lucid's A mode drivers (ati only mode) can scale as well or even better than ati's own.

Seriously. What the hell is going on when that is the case?

To be honest, I'm very disappointed in easyrider in making this thread. Granted he bought a 6870 and loving it I respect that, but I wouldn't want to see him walking down the same path as some people on this forum...

My guess is that the 6970 will pip the 580, but it may need high stock clock speeds to get there. The GTX 580 currently outperforms the 5870 by ~40%, and the 6900 series will need to be 40-50% faster than 5800 series to snatch the top slot. A few optimisations and (possibly) 20% extra shaders may get it there or thereabouts, but how well will they overclock? With most 580's managing ~20% overclcoks there is life in the old dog yet.

It is a fair bet that anything the 580 cannot play, 6900 wont will not play either. Not worth the "upgrade" unless both performance and efficiency are noticeably better.

It may actually be better if 6900 is slower than 580. This will force ATI to be very competetive on pricing. If the ATI card is faster, pricing will only be comparative. Lets hope for some launch "5850 like" bargain prices. GTX 480 performance for £200-£250 would be very nice.

..but I love's my preciousss 580.
