Who with a 8800 series is getting R600?

Firegod said:
Not me. I'm more than happy with my GTS. This card will be good for the next 1-2 years for me (like with all my cards). :)

I see no reason to upgrade.

It would have to be something really really special.

Yeah I agree,

Chasing the dragon is getting boring! :p

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that spending hundreds on PC hardware is futile.

As mobo's and chips etc... can perform just as fast for considerably less.

I have recently been testing the E4300,6300,6600 and QX6700 and TBH
the difference between the 2mb conroes and the 4mb conroes is so small I defy anyone to notice in real terms.

Only the Quad showed massive gains in encoding but its just not worth the 650 quid price tag.

Maybe easyrider's outlook is changing  :D

8600 Ultra is where its at people! :) when they coming out anyways?

Indeed I agree if the price is right...

If they are 199inc then 8800 GTS 300MB is the card to get

If they are like 149inc then that would be the ticket :D

tough one. i had every intention of selling the gtx and getitng an r600 but i dont know if i can be bothered now really lol

Yeah me too.

I mean whats it like to have a card longer than 3 months and run it into the ground?

Its new to me lol

This will be the test of easyriders sanity! :p

james.miller said:
hold your horses i wouldn't go that far :p i only run budget cards in to the ground. Thing is, i dont run a 30" monitor so there's nothing that really phases my pc right now. is it worth upgrading? no i dont think so. not yet, anyway.

Yeah but thats where things get tricky..

R600 comes out (if faster) 8800 GTX prices drop. We lose.

Thats the dilema!

I sell my BFG now for £350 and get R600 for 50 quid more....

Cycle continues :p

Or just keep GTX and sell it in 12 months for 150  :(

A little scared are we Easy :D.

Well I had a moment of clarity a few days back after testing most of the C2D range.

£650 chips are not worth it.Hell 4mb cache chips over the 6300/6400 are not worth it IMO.The performance at the same clock speed is just not there lol.

And I'm not scared I just wanna time it right lol!

But dare I say it I might sit this one out! :D

Errm no, I only upgrade when I'm not satisfied with current performance. I consider upgrades just for the sake of having the fastest pretty lame and only for those with a tiny penis. :p

its not about that,

It purely financial. :p

Shocky-FM said:
And? There hardly the "best" available are they.. They werent at the time of purchase and there definitely not now so how does that compare exactly?

LOL

Your pc is top end thats it,

Dont say it isnt when it is. ;)

Shocky-FM said:
Your missing the point, my system is not the best but the same type of users who would be making the upgrade to R600 are the type that would be upgrading my system to quadcore, i680 and 8500 memory.

680i is overated
8500 ram is not needed as good 6400 will clock past this,

Quad core is not worth £650 and is only useful for encoding.
By the time games need four cores there will be Q6300's out!

Upgrading from 8800 GTX is not bragging rights.Never has been for me.

Im going to be strong and try and keep my opty setup for ages, carnt go wrong with a server processor, resisted the move to conroe, and after playing on conroe on a mates pc, there's not all that much difference :)

Good for you, :)

However backing up DVD's an my mates opty @ 2.8ghz makes me want to kill myself! :p

Again your missing the point, users who make these stupid upgrades are not doing it because they need the performance increase or are unhappy with the performance. Their doing it because they just want the best available regardless of cost.

You have upgraded from 8800GTX?

I meant all my upgrading has not been for bragging rights lol

But I have seen the light.

Mobos costing 200 quid are not worth it.They clock no better than 70 quid mobos with current C2D.

This does not make a 200 mobo the best just because it cost the most.

I would argue the best Mobo for C2D at this moment in time in terms of price stablity and clocking is the DS3.

conroe3.jpg

Faster clock for clock than the 680i in my experience. And it costs 110 quid less.

Higher FSB with quad cores and C2D both the 2MB and 4MB versions.

The crutch for me was realising that the 200 quid mobo I forked out good money for was FSB limited to 312 on the 680i....and Quad cores...THIS IS A JOKE.

It got me thinking.

I installed the 4300 and 6300 and began clocking getting better results and similar speeds to that of the 6600/6700 again that were costing 100's more.

So price does not mean the best.I have proved this to myself and my wallet has taken a battering in the process...

You live an learn :p

Well, I agree but I feel your still missing the point. The type of user who will make this upgrade probably will already have a ridiculous setup like dual dell 30" displays with quadcore, 8800GTX SLI, 1000w PSU's and for them its nothing to do with value or bang for buck.. It's just to get the hardware first and brag on forums.

I imagine some will try and reason its part of their 6 months upgrade cycle crap and that there not loosing much from the transition but that’s total BS as we all know.

Well If i can sell the 8800 GTX for 350 and get R600 for 50 more then I'm in.Not taking into account what I paid. But what it will cost me now.

Then more than likely I will succumb. :p

But it wont be to bragg. It will be to have a play with the latest gear for the cost of a night out!

Shocky-FM said:
Yeah right, you be very lucky to get £350 for it near R600 launch plus R600 will almost certainly cost allot more then £400. Try £450-500+. I'll just guess you spent around £450 on your 8800GTX so even if you sell for £350 thats a £100 loss right there...

I know this already.

Been looking on auction sites and BFG's are going for around £375 now.Boxed with receipt and unused bits.

losing £75 when I have had the card 3 months is good going.

Thing is the timing of it...I might sell in the next two weeks and go 5200 for a month ready to get R600 when it arrives.

When is launch anyway?
will my 620w Enermax liberty be ok for this new card?

Its all wether I CBA :p

Shocky-FM said:
Your kidding yourself there... Your not upgrading for braging rights or so you claim and its definitely not because your performance isnt good enough or for financial reasons.. So the question is, why ?

Well one of the reasons might be I haven't had a ATI card since the 9800pro :p

I like playing with new hardware.

Thats about it.

Oh I get bored easily :p

Shocky-FM said:
So basically you fail into the catagory of users who just want the best and are quite happy making a large financial loss in the process. Let me guess, the first thing your going to do when you get it is make a thread about your purchase...

/me waits for easyriders " I just bought a R600" braging thread.. :p

Thats the whole point..

The idea is not to make a huge financial loss.Thats the reason behind it.

I usually lose around 100 in between gens

that works out to around 25 quid a month to play with the latest tech..

Cheaper than sky +

nothing :p

Press samples are going out on the 14th of Feb this has been confirmed by a very reliable source the R600 it self is now done and is launching early March ;) , easy your time is running out to get that GTX shifted ;)

LOL,

I left the GX2 7days before 8800 launch and I just made it before GX2 plummeted and nobody wanted them. :D

Plenty of time to get things in place :p

EDIT:

Hang on a minute....I haven't decided wether I am doing it yet!
