Not hugely. They're water resistant, but not water proof.
Are they fairly thin and warm?
i have been looking for some decent gloves and most seem to be huge padded ski style gloves.
Also can't use my camera with such thick gloves!

Neoprene tends to be good at keeping you warm even when wet but they're still liable to get wet. I'd suspect after a while oil might well cause them to degrade but that's going to happen with most things as your work environment is fairly harsh.
Had a pair of theese a while back, used them during the winter when going shooting. Very comfortable and good grip, but they did tend to soak up a lot of water when the rain got heavy.http://www.outdoorpros.com/Prod/Blackhawk-8150MDBK-Neoprene-Patrol-Gloves-Black/60051/Cat/1611

Might have to give them a go unless someone can think of anything better. I don't expect anything to last.
