And it goes on. At the risk of sounding too ''burt hurt'' about this, I'd like to put this across (its not that long). As I read forums, news from several gaming sites, and, indeed, ‘’utoob’’, I keep hearing about how much IW shafted the PC community.

Let me say, I am a PC guy myself, though I do have both the consoles, all of the platforms have there place, but for FPS, PC is where it is at, even if said games are console ports.

There is a huge amount of animosity towards IW from the PC community over the dedicated severs PR fiasco. I can’t help thinking though, that the rage is directed to the wrong party.

It is surely activison, where the blame lies.

Activions CEO has made no apology over how he views COD, and, specifically MW, as a ''cash cow''. The games have a maximum life span as far as the makers are concerned of about a year (or two, if u don’t like one of the two COD developers). PC, did not get free maps for COD4 where as the consoles had to pay because the like us better. It was simply due to the fact the PC audience would mod there own maps (probably better) rather than pay for the developers efforts. Indeed, steam integration, was implemented as an easy form of distribution, rather than some dubious IW download page, that would no doubt be plagued by problems, and easily copied for pirated versions.

Removing dedicated servers has meant that if we want more we have to be spoon fed by the developer just like the consoles are.

I have a real hard time believing, even with people like bowling at IW, really sitting down the weeks after COD4 released during a brain storming session for the new game, and someone saying:

''dude, let’s drop dedicated servararrs''.....

Infact I have no doubts the developers aired there concerns to Activision executives pretty early on.

If you look at how the news was announced (sort of) on that pod cast, and every interview IW had about MW2, they where clearly uncomfortable talking about the PC version. Many people are chalking that up to a dislike towards the PC, and, no doubt there is an element of truth in that if you look at the old piracy chest nut.

IW are hardly going to come out and say, ‘’sorry PC guys, Activison made us do it’’ are they? There not going to burn there employer for the sake of saving face.

Am not saying IW are all angels, I mean this is just a video game, and it’s a business that is supposed to make money. I do feel however that IW is being scapegoated, where the real elephant in the room is Activisions top brass. There the ones calling the shots and there the ones who stood to loose out on potential DLC revenue from the PC audience if the status-quo continued.

What do you guys think?

As I said in one of the other threads... ATVI are the main culprit IMO they've become the complete opposite of the publisher they once were - which is why idsoftware has RUN away from them.

IW aren't blameless and some of the animosity towards them comes due to their PR - their public facing people are too full of themselves and apparently think everyones fooled by their slimey bs.

Its time gamers were put back into the seat of the developers.. come back cliffy B and sort out the ut sieres to put the cod crap where it belongs..

The games entertainment industry is a business, it's funded by investors who expect a maximum of return for a minimum of outlay at maximum efficiency. The more 'one size fits all' solutions there are the happier the industry investors will be, thus consoles make the most money with lowest risk of theivery so the PC gaming market will naturally be the poor cousin in most cases. Add to all that the use of succesful IPs and you tend to find with each iteration of that IP the development cycle becomes lazier since in most cases the market is preprepared and involves less risk.

We have a problem in this country in that we still seem to see home computer gaming with the same psychology as we viewed it in the early days of the late 70's and early 80's, i.e. independant people working on their original ideas devoid of corporate manipulation and answerable to the end user. Those days are long gone, the purse holders have all the power now.

Saying all that there are still plenty of individual, independant idealists out there, you just have to search a bit harder and support them with the hard readies directly.

TBH though, at the end of the day it's only a bloody game get over it:p there will be plenty new gaming experiences to come;) I've seen so many good IPs rise and fall it's just a fact of life.

Couldn`t agree more, I believe the choice was made by the publisher rather than the developer.

Honestly, which developer would cripple their game voluntarily like IW did?

I`m pretty sure it was not up to them to decide, either way it doesn`t really matter anymore, IW is tied to Activision, so I won`t be buying their games(MW3, MW4, ...MW99), simple as that :o
