I've got a 4890 that does 60FPS, which is the minimum for me. I'll update when games come out that it can't cope with, but not before.

With the consoles dragging back game innovation, that may be a while. All the PC games seem to be nowadays is hi-res versions of console games. This is okay, but I've just bought a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, so I'm not going to buy a 30" just to make buying a top card worthwhile.

I'm interested in the 5850 but i'm not going to buy it. I have a 4870 1gb and the only reason i have that card is because in the PC Config section they didn't have a 4850 1gb to select, just a 512mb card.

To answer your question, bypassing these cards might not be possible if a DX11 game appears, and if one does appear then i'll purchase a 5850, but for now...I'll stick with my 4870 1gb because it does the job.

Can't decide. I am either going to wait a few weeks and then cave and buy the 5850 OR wait till NV release their cards.

The thing that is putting me off is I haven't been playing many games recently... so it seems a lil pointless.

Having owned a GTX280 since release I bypassed the last generation (GTX285/4890) which was quite an insignificant improvement really.

I game at 1680x1050, with an ATi 4870 512mb card. Until whatever game I use at the time begins to annoy me, I wont upgrade methinks.*

I'm still running 2x8800GTS 512mb in sli which do pretty well but I would have needed to sli GTX285 for a noticeable upgrade so decided to skip this round. Just waiting to see what NV come up with to make a decision on which way to go on the DX11 cards.
