Thinking of upgrading my TV to hi-def (poss Sony Z5500 series) and at the same time add Windows Home Server (WHS) to expand home PC network now that 2 of my kids got their own laptops for Christmas.

Questions I have are:
  1. How easy is it to link the 5500 to WHS via the DLNA connection to view photos and movies?
  2. I store all my music in iTunes, can this be streamed from iTunes to play through the 5500 or would I need to replicate my music collection from iTunes into the media part of WHS?
  3. How easy is it to record normal TV broadcast, inc Freeview, to store on WHS to then replay across home network?

1)What exactly do you plan to have running the WHS, as this is going to determine how you connect it to just about anything.
2)As long as you can get an itunes server to run on the WHS you will be fine (sadly I am not up to date on WHS as use linux for my server).
3)You can add an one of several free view adaptors and software depending what you get in 1.

I'm not sure to be honest what I need. Basically looking to have network storage/backup for several PCs in the house, store DVDs that can be viewed on TVs and PC/laptops, store photos for viewing on TV and PC/laptops across network and centralise iTunes music for streaming across network.

If I rip DVDs to be stored in WHS running on a HP Media Server for example, could I simply view them on a network connected TV or do I need some other equipment between the TV and WHS?
