Just a rant...

1) Elder Scrolls Oblivion, game seems good, but for god sake, why have they made such a crappy GUI? it has to be the worse iv ever seen, it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to drop a item (only found out until I read the manual). Game seems good, but it really bugs me that simple things like that just ruins it, its not a touch on Balduers Gate 2

2) The Godfather - the mouse.. .argh, why would any company make controls so the mouse is inverted? (and the option in the settings doesnt even do anything), that seems like a good game, but I found it unplayable because of the controls. If anyone knows how to get the mouse controls to be normal, please feel free to tell me :)

 It tells you how to do it in the manual! How in gods name does that spoil a game?

UI is a bit pants but can be altered very easily so who cares?

they havent spent any time on the GUI at all

Pressing shift and left click to drop a item? i mean come on, the gui just looks like a console imo

You've pretty much answered your own question - Xbox syndrome.

Just be thankful that due to it's modability, Oblivion is the sort of game which can have much of it's consolitus cured.

Yeap, you are right. Of course, looking in the manual in the first place always helps... ;)

Actually, the GUI is to be expected. Morrowind had the same crap GUI, and Dark Age of Camelote (the classic first version) used the same NetImmerse engine as Morrowind and also contained the same crap gui. It's nothing to do with it also being a console game.

i actually find Oblivions easier to use than past versions... easier to find things IMO. but yes, it has been one of the major things about TES series is that the GUI has always been a bit poor.

and as for the OP letting the fact that you couldn't work out how to drop an item ruin the game... thats just absured...

tell me, have you played X3, or X2 for that matter... i imagine that X3's learning curve would also be way too steep for you, despite both being cracking games.

Havent played X2 or X3 before, X2 is the really old RTS game aint it?

I like games with a steep learning curve, whats a steep learning curve gotta do about a crappy GUI? The best GUI iv used is UT, UT2004 and BF2. HL2 is good also. It just annoys me that a company spends years making the actual game, but spend very little on the user interface (BG2's was also v.good, NWNs werent bad either)

i made a better gui for my Last Java project than the current oblivion one.. love the modding for Oblivion though, gonna be some good stuff for it. shame it was done for the old 360 though...

I really don't get all the fuss about the Oblivion UI at all  Sure, it seemed a bit clumsy at first, but now I don't even think about it - it's no big deal for crying out loud. "ruined" the game? Hardly.

Anyway, there isn't a single "perfect" game I can think of. Possibly Zelda:OoT on the N64.....but even then I'm sure I could think of something :)

Mine isn't inverted

I know there is a problem if you are using a no cd crack, try using the cd?
