why are the destroying final fantasy name :(

I loved them all bar 8 (wwaay too emo). I have not cared for them since X, that was the beginning of the end for me. XIII was the final nail in the coffin.

IV wasn't an MMO, I presume you mean XI? Which is actually going fine.

My bad, it was XIV, and whoever plays that must be mad.

I think the thing that got me interested in it was the enthusiastic thread on these forums, then even when it was was live people on here were saying it was great or good, while the reviews of it were rightly, imo, giving it around a 5 out of 10 or 50% score, which I think is generous.

That's why I didn't get DC Universe actually, all mmo fans go crazy for a new release no matter how crap it is.

Yeah XIV is a trainwreck.

I enjoyed 8 the most but it was the first one I played, swords with guns in? What more could a young boy want.

I'm currently playing IV on the DS and have V to follow it. II, III and VI I have on a Korean handheld that runs emuators. Loved VII, tolerated VIII (Loved the card game though), still haven't played IX and again, loved X. Wish they make a new, decent FF and release it on the PC. As per most of you, XI and XIV hold no interest for me.

In the mean time, I own The Last Remnant which whilst not the same seems pretty damn good. However, I have such bad tearing on the TV with it I haven't given it a proper blast :(

The only way I see they are destroying and especially confusing the hell out of the Final Fantasy name, especially for those who are not familar with how this series works, is by making the online MMOs part of the main numbered series e.g. XI and XIV.

Other than that, regarding the single player main numbered games and their variants, no matter how bad some of them may be depending on one's personal view, I still respect the fact that Square-Enix are trying to do something different with each of them whilst incorporating their trademark themes and elements that are associated with the franchise.

The recent single player FFXIII was defiantely a hit and miss with some fans, and some of the gameplay choices were really poor and don't compare to previous efforts, but I still enjoyed it a lot regardless. And with it's sequal, FFXIII-2 coming, I hope to see how they will expand the story and world it has.

The one thing about Final Fantasy games that I like, and this is the main problem which non-fans don't really understand and get confused about, is how each game is completely different, the characters, the world and it's own history, gameplay system mechanics, but the story and progression follows a similar formula.

I have Last Remanent but haven't had the time to play it yet, very well programmed (it works on good settings on my laptop, with a nvidia gt 325 card, which I think is always a good sign, they actually put effort into it)

It looks like a cracker.

anyone else think final fantasy name is being destroyed ?
not long bought the new online final fantasy and all i can say is what a waste of money. it just seems so difficult and time consuming to do the smallest of things on it !
There is nothing straight forward about it at all.

what ever happend to the days of final fantasy 7 8 & 9 !
even final fantasy 14 for xbox n ps3 was shockingly bad. ever since final fantasy 9 its all gone down hill!

why they making games so rubbish these days !! :(

Maybe it's because the competition is stronger, none of the Final Fantasies on the DS are better than the Dragon Quest DS games imo.

Also, I thought Dragon Quest VII was arguably the best Japanese rpg on the PS2.

Maybe I'm just a dragon quest fanboy though :)

Most of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games on the DS are either remakes or spin-off titles anyways, so hard to compare. With exception of course to Dragon Quest IX since it's a new and exclusive.

As for The Last Remnant. It definately wasn't as good as I hoped it'd be, but the PC version and if you have a good system, is miles ahead better than the Xbox 360 version. Better graphics & performance, and a couple of new tweaks like harder enemies overall. The gameplay and battles can become difficult and complex to learn at first (Similar to the SaGa games), but it offers some epic and at times long battles.

Yep that's the one, I don't know why I really got into that one in particular.

Probably because out of the PlayStation/3D graphics era, this was the only main numbered Final Fantasy that went back to it's traditional roots and the Medieval Fantasy setting of the older NES/SNES games? (Not counting XI and XIV obviously as they are MMOs).

FF's are fine - it's just squareenix fail at mmo. I would have thought they'd learn their lesson from the dreadful FFXI of which i had 2 L70s.

I think I'd have to agree with that yep :)
