Why oh why do people throw the packaging away that their console or console games came in away? I mean take the Neo Geo you all know how much they're worth now and it's so hard to find people selling the console with the box and instructions and so on same goes for many of the games. Do those fools realise they coulds have made like an extra £50 or more on the console if they kept all that.

Same goes with snes games almost all I see on the famous auction site don't have the manual or the box they came in. I have all the boxes for my games and consoles I even have the box to my Atari 2600.

I just needed to let off steam has I've been Neo Geo hunting for sometime. I'd pay £10 just for a empty Neo Geo box and Manual so I could put the console in it when I get one.

I live in a studio flat and i have to plan for space, i try to keep stuff but sometimes i have to let go of the box in the bin. I tend to keep the manuals and as you can see i aint no fool and im not keen on selling my stuff either too.

TBH when I ripped open my PS1, PS2 etc, the first thing I thought wasn't "OMG KEEP THE DAMNED BOX" and when moving house, it got a bit bashed so it got thrown out.

I find the "OMG IT HASN'T GOT THE BOX, NO DOLLAH FOR YOU" mentality a little stupid itself actually.

Because:

A) The box takes up unneccesary space in my room/house.

B) I don't really plan to re-sell, so I'm never inclined to hang on to boxes.

C) WHAT DOES IT REALLY MATTER. I mean seriously. The box, in my eyes, has always been simply an object that lies between me and a game. Once the game is out, it's in the console/PC and I'm playing, and the box can get lost for all I care. Keeping the boxes has always struck me as a thing "collectors" do, and for reasons unbeknownst to me, they love that kind of thing, because apparently that's more important than whether the object inside them is actually any good.

I keep CD cases and DVD cases because they're small, well-made, and protect the media inside them, but most cartridge games have always had rubbish packaging, which quite frankly, I see no need to bother with. GBA games, SNES games, hell, old PC games were the worst: Large cardboard packaging, that just got in the way, especially when they contained CD cases within them. Hell, sometimes I'm half-tempted to throw away all my DS game cases, because they're so needlessly large, considering the size of the cartridges.

EDIT: I keep the manuals most of the time, but even then they're mostly worthless. So few games have manuals that are worth more than the most cursory "what are the controls" flick-through.

I won't buy second hand games if the case and the manual arn't in mint condition. It looks like I'm not going to find if easy to find Neo Geo with it's boxe and instructions and so on which is a shame as I'll have to find someone thats got a broken Neo Geo and prepared to sell me their packaging.

I have all mine, Snes, N64, old PC games

I dont like throwing stuff like that out, plus I used to trade games a lot and perfect boxes + manuals got more money for trade

i only keep boxes of things that may break

so shuttle PC box
HDTV box
Xbox 360....box :p

the rest goes

EDIT - another point, just because the box is present doesnt mean the actual quality of the product is good

Why though? It's still exactly the same Neo-Geo game with or without the box. The manual I can half-understand, as they are sometimes useful, but the box is there for nothing more than somewhere for shops to put the games in so they look nice.

I'd be buying it has a collector as well as a gamer so the case and manual is a must. It's like how a china or pottery is worth less if it has an hair line crack.

It's just not possible to be able to keep the cardboard boxes for everything I buy...

I think if i done this...I need another house just for keeping cardboard boxes in..

Yes, THEY'RE so "stupied".

Personally I always kept the boxes anyway, I love the way they look without banged corners etc.. my personal favourites were the Sega Dreamcast box and the Half Life PC box.

I understand when people don’t have boxes for the games that come in cardboard boxes, what I cant understand is why people don’t have boxes for there mega drive games, I mean the dam thing came in a plastic box to protect your game and instructions

I like to keep tings as mint as possible with games these days, Im beginning to have a small obession with collecting games, and the condition of the packaging is really important to me. Its not as if im saying Id buy a crap game becuase it had a good box its just better for agood game to have a good box. Its a part of the game as a whole, it has art work and usually hilarious synopsis on it.

I too am a box snob on classic games.

Is there any Neo Geo owners here I'd like to know how much pleasure they still get from this old console. I like the look of a Neo Geo game called Zen Blade which is crazy as I've never been into them R-Type style games. I also like the look of that scrolling beatem up I forget what it's called where your killing demons and some souls come to your aid when you free them.

So many Neo Geo games so little money. :(

When I buy games second hand I make a point of only getting ones with the original box and instructions. A lot of others are the same, so even if you don't care about it, when you come to sell you'll get less for your items than you would have done. I still have my games console boxes too.

I keep all of my packaging. Helped me get a bit more money when I traded my ps2 in for an xbox. My xbox is currently sat in it's original packaging and box, same with games. I'm slightly anal like that :o
