Why are we getting such bad ports?

Your playing the wrong games.

If you want a proper PC racing game you should have bought one of the following:

rfactor
iRacing
Live For Speed (NOT NEED FOR SPEED :p)
Richard Burns Rally
GTR Evolution
Race 07

rFactor2 is out next year as well, instead of moaning about bad ports why don't you guys buy proper PC games?

The amount of mods out for these games is eye watering, yet you buy the biggest console racers, doesn't make sense to me...

Thats because people are easily marketed and zombie sheep. They only take whats fed to them and dont bother to look into whats out there

Tefal it looks epic i'm definitely going to give it a go when I get my new GPU I doubt my 8800GTS will play as the modders intended

Same, BC2 was/is an awesome port.

BC2 is such a bad port it's unreal , mouse lag is stupid .

I am glad someone else agrees with me about the state of console ports , I keep telling all my clan buddies we will all be gaming on consoles and using Apple macs inside 5 years.

The last great multiplayer game on the PC was , and still is , TF 2 . I will hold final judgement until BF3 comes out but feel the PC is doomed for on line multiplayer as far as FPS go.

The cinematic mod is epic, but back to my point people really annoy me...

We have some epic PC games yet idiots buy console ports, then expect them to be brilliant, they are what they are £20 of entertainment... I bought BC2 and except that its just a little game with no substance, but its fun ever now and then....

Seems a lot of guys don't even consider proper PC games anymore...

There's all the racers I listed, then games like:

Arma: Operation Arrowhead
Killing Floor
Team Fortress 2
BF2
Project Reality (BF2/Arma engine)
Counter Strike: Source
Red Orchestra
DCS: Black Shark
Dogfighter
Altitude
Men Of War
Company of Heroes - loads of quality mods that are better than the actual game

.... the list is bloody endless.... IF YOU BUY CONSOLE PORTS ACCEPT THEM FOR WHAT THEY ARE OR BUY PROPER PC GAMES!!!!!!

:D

You idiots make me rage... aaahhhhhhh

I think people's problem is many old pc game franchises are being bought up and consolified ad ported back to pc. :(

Shame to see good franchises die.

Wow this looks incredible and HL2 looks amazing anyway even five years on. I'm due another play through I think when I get my new graphics card i'm going to try this

Has anyone tried it? I'm a bit confused as to why i've never seen it before

Does look very good, Half Life 2 is one, if not my fav game on the PC. I never tire of playing it. I loved Half Life just as much as Half Life 2, but Half Life 2 even after all these years looks just as good as it did when first released.

To me Half Life 2 is the best of PC gaming, but some won't agree. Sure, bigger (well better looking for sure) games have come along since but Half Life 2 was an epic single player game, I still to this day remember how the game changed from a hovercraft chase to becoming a survival horror game in Ravenholm. Cutting up zombie crabmen with a gravity gun and a circular saw blade was excellent fun... Still is today.

Just something about that game, I installed Steam to play it and everything slowly started to change from then on. I remember hating Steam as I couldn’t understand why I’d need to be connected to the internet to play a game… lol Still look where we are today, without Steam you’d not play some of the top AAA titles being released.

Half Life 2 was also the one game that got ported to consoles from PC and it was actually better to play it on a PC if you ask me.

There are loads of proper PC games out there, mostly following into simulation, realism, indie, RPG, RTS and MMO... but if you know where to look/read there is still gaming gold out there.

I enjoy retarded shooters like BC2, but I also know what else is out there so I play these games a ting amount each week and spend 90% of time on proper PC games, which most of you seem to have totally missed..

Why don't you lot play these games?

There is something seriously wrong with your compatibility/pc with this specific game, it runs flawless for me. So in my eyes, no it's not a bad port.
Despite being a person who hates a lot of consoles ports myself, BC2 isn't one of them.

Unless the latest patch changed something of course, but the mouse hasn't been "laggy" for me.

Agree with you m8 Runs perfect for me, never experiance any mouse lag at all.

Like what mate?

CoD - that died after Cod2 for me, CoD4 for others.

Bad Company has never been a PC game, it's a console brand as they couldn't handle full sixe battlefield... Why are people complaining about this?

Yet your rank 43 So can't be that bad :D

I dont get why anyone would even class BC as a port, I know it is but it doesnt feel like it at all, BC2 and MOH MP both run amazingly well on my aging GPU but BC2 for me is game of the year, the amount of time i've put into it and the amazing gameplay its provided me with in that time for £30 port or no port is incredible.

I stand by this, some companies are best avoided as you cant blame "ports" its the people behind them that make ports "bad ports" regardless as already mentioned, if you buy a multi platform release its to be expected that there is a risk element, if you dont want to take that risk then there are plenty of games out there that are PC only

You mean like COD? what started out on the PC has now 100% become a hot ticket to make money for the console owners..

COD 4 MW was actually a very good game, if too short. Both the PC and Console versions were very good, but it was clearly built with console gamers in mind....

I think some games shouldn't be as bad as they are when ported, or released across multi platform.

Thankfully, as mentioned modders do seem to fix a lot of the faults. F1 2010 is seeing a lot of mods being released. Wasn't Fallout 3 modded quite a lot to? Being a bad console port isn't the end of the game though.. Lots of talented folks out there that'll fix a lot of problems in games...

Just the way it is now, cross platform for most profit to keep these projects running. Your never going to see a studio set aside a independent team for a PC version of the games. Everything is just to tight, money, time and manpower wise.

Remember the industry is aiming for only a couple of platforms that do everything media wise in front of the TV.

COD started off as medal of honor.... a playstation game. They only changed the name due to legal issues with EA.

Now that I didn't know. I remember playing MOHAA back in, what 2002 on my old Riva TNT2 utlra and it being a bit of a slideshow in places. So about a year later I upgraded my PC to a ATI Radeon 9700 pro, cost me the earth at the time.. lol 1024 x 768 - woohoo. Looked amazing but bet it looks like crude now.

I played through COD2 on my 8800GTX and it was if you ask me about the best WWII FPS I'd ever played. Was limited to 1280 x 1024 though due to the screen I was using at the time... lol

I'll be honest though, COD4 MW and COD5 WAW are every bit as good as COD2 and I don't see them as being bad ports, just a game that was designed to be playable on both console and PC to make as much profit as possible...

Or maybe the ports arent bad at all and they are actually better on PC (teething issues on release aside) and its a case of whats acceptable in the console market isnt acceptable to PC owners in terms of the standards of games, ever thought about it that way?

PC gamers were playing games in HD years before consoles with decent graphics, consoles caught up in 2005 and we've been pretty much stuck in that era ever since with only DirectX in PC gaming moving on yet not really being taken advantage of

Why don't you lot play these games?

Yeah absolutely. Dragon Age is a recent example of a game that was implemented better on PC than console and also arguably, Mass Effect 2.

It's only FPS games really.
