well dunno if it just me but over say last year things are getting very silly in graphics market even if you buy latest card you cant play all games at very highest settings with good fps think were getting ripped in general as only few years ago you could with high end stuff and the amount of cards is silly u got new ones every month now whatta ya thinks

yes but on big screens and high settings even the top cards struggle say fear with everything on say you pay a grand and you should be able to play it at whatever for what is a 15-20 pound game crazzeee.

It's OK by me, software and hardware both push each other along, and the more often a new GPU is developed and released the sooner the previous generation get cheaper (then I can afford one :) )

F.E.A.R is a badly programmed POS. Its a great game, but the programming is weak. Just look at Hitman : Blood Money, specifically the New Orleans mission where you walk the streets with literally 1000s of pedestrians. I play that in 1680 x 1050 with everything on and its smooth as silk. Some people just have to learn how to optimize their code is all.

The available tech, especially the high end, is more than up to the task. Code optimization differs greatly between developers and that is always going to be a problem. It isnt helped by the rapid proliferation of better and faster video cards. It makes developers lazy.

Yeah hitman is very well coded. The crowds stood out because in any other game it would lag like crazy or they would look like cardboard cutouts.

Oblivion is designed to look better on future systems so it will run pretty poorly on current rigs.

I think the hitman bloodmoney creators need a medal for their coding.

Honestly my Jaw hit the floor several times while playing Hitman. It is a total piece of art and exceptionally well coded.

and I don't really think it's particulary crazy, just a bit of bad timing by the games company. They start developing games like FEAR and Oblivion years before the GPU's are released, they know what affects are available in the DX9 (or whatever) specs and they just have to hope that in 2 years time GPU's will be up to it. Games like Doom3 and HL2 where supposed to coincide with the 9800 range of cards, (which they would have swamped) and "fortunately" they were a year late. It's all a timing thing, they have to hope, but whatever is available they have to release when it's ready...

The best example of coding efficiency is consoles. As they are a standard setup you can really see the difference good coding can do. Take the PS2, the later games are far better graphically than the originals, the programmers worked out the best way to optimise the latter games and it really shows.

game releases have shorter deadlines and new games need patching all the time since they have been rushed. proper solid games like farcry have top notch coding in them to pull out the best from every generation of graphics card.
Fear is just useless and is not worth paying for thanks to its crap coding.

Yup ... another example of PC excellence ... Far Cry. Absolutely brilliant.

Awesome game, loved being able to see about 1k through the sniper scope :)

its because we get ripped off for hardware and games are rushed so dont work properly on powerfull hardware. and the fact there a million and one different hardware setups to make games for (unlike consoles) which is why games run fine on consoles with much less power i.e PS2

farcry visuals are awesome, but it soon lost its appeal when it got all doomified with ficticious monsters etc. But this played outstanding on my 9800pro. cant wait to test it on my 6800gs 512mb gainwood tomorrow (if it comes)

sorry for the downer but is the 6800gs the 6800gt but with only 12 pipes? I would have thought a 2nd hand 6800gt would be peanuts now. yes farcry did work nice on a 9800pro

Well the 6800GT has 16 pipes and the 6800GS has only 12, but the memory and core of the 6800GS is clocked higher so the performance of the two is very similar, perhaps the 6800GT is just slightly faster.

You'd be surprised at how well the 6800GT cards are holding their price, it's very hard to find a second hand one in good condition for less than £100.
