Why do amd like to spoil video quality by default?

although it looks excellent, better than a plasma, this could be because the plasmas were not set up correctly in Currys, but if so; the Sharp shouldn't have been either..... all the LED tv's looked better.

The only thing I'll say about that is that I never, ever, judge quality on the sets in any retailer because nobody ever spends the time to set them up correctly. They just don't do it.

The first thing i always think of when i see my Panny 42'' is...``that screen is too dark`` yet it's on 75% brightness, the image is perfect, but it has no WOW factor.

Well, plasma's have always been better suited to low ambient light levels but in the darkness I'd be surprised if you thought it still wasn't bright enough, mine is underwhelming in daylight, almost unwatchable with direct light through the windows, but still retina-burning at night if it needs to be. It's very much horses for courses when choosing a tv and if you put a plasma up against an LED-backlit set then for daytime viewing it will be suitable trounced, no matter who manufactures it.

put it this way, they couldn't find the remote for any of them, plus when i asked to see a tv channel, i had to wait till the channels were updated... yes they hadn't been updated since the Digital switchover... weeks ago

this was increadible, i burst out laughing, the tvs are turned on and off at night and nothing else, and fed through a standard DVD PLAYER that feeds to all of them at once.... so yes Currys have no idea at all

yes what you say is right, i need to research what to do much more.... because the Sharp is for gaming at night in near dark, i hardly ever watch tv during the day, so i need to be careful about its blacks, which always look poorer on an LCD, it has no motion blur though, which is good news

I'm always shocked at the amount that ramp the brightness/contrast to 100% and then the colours look like kryptonite. Yet at the same time the top of the TV's are extremely hot.

plus the 60'' looks average in a shop, but totally massive at home, the tvs menu was extremely sharp and bright for a 60'' screen, there must be more going on here than i realise with regards to technology, because 6 years ago a 60'' tv looked dreadful on SD, even it was 1080p..... tv technology has moved on a hell of a lot since then.

When I had AMD cards, I turned all that junk off as soon as I installed the drivers. I just can't fathom why anyone would have these turned on, they only serve to destroy a perfectly good image (assuming you've got bluray quality video). I think the filters were originaly designed for incredibly poor quality, noisy, low resolution video, which no cares for anyway and even then, you'll only end up with a polished turd.

I don't mind having these options available to me, but having them enabled by default is incredibly stupid, especially in this day and age of high quality HD video. It's the same retarded mentality you get in the world of audio; perfectly fine audio quality ruined by stupid EQ effects and 'enhanced' bass modes.

That said, in the catalyst drivers, I did leave some settings on and these were 'automatic deinterlacing', 'pulldown detection' and 'enforce smooth video playback'. These settings did seem to improve video playback quality and smoothness so are definitely worth leaving on. In fact, with my current nvidia cards I do notice video isn't as smooth as it was with AMD, just seems more jittery. :(

Because 99.9% of people use a computer to watch youtube at best. The settings are designed to improve crappy low res flash rubbish. Most people watch blurays through their bluray player/ps3 and tv, they only use their PC to browse the web and watch a farting dog on the sun website.
