Why do nice cars attract morons?

If you think your car gets more stares and looks than a 911 GT3 you REALLY ARE DELUDING YOURSELF

Oh really?

lol

I'm not so sure. I know Durzel won't post pics as he is comfortable with discussing such things without posting pics of his own car, but I will because it was lush and tbh if I saw a GT3 and his R34 in the same car park I wouldn't be looking at the GT3!!

Hope you don't mind Durz :)

I'll be honest... if I saw an R34 and a porsche parked together my head would turn to the skyline first... but that's just me. I just find them more alluring. :)

EDIT - Durzel that Skyline is a beauty.

And you chose to miss this bit...

"I am sure there are many poeple who prefer your car to mine, and good on them, each to their own."

If ANYONE is going to quote me it might help to put it into context. Nice car and as I said "I actually nearly bought a Skyline R34, I liked it a lot"

Don't fall into the trap of making sweeping statements and taking what I said out of context, you only devalue your own points.

Enjoy your car.

yet you seem to have and espouse the view that people form an impression of you based on the car you drive. No question they do that, but they ARE IDIOTS because of it and that is why myself and others find your statement so idiotic!

Actually i think nearly everyone will form a picture of someone on what car they drive, if you saw a red corsa coming towards you will a full bodykit you would think "chav", however it could be anyone driving. We make assumptions about people on what they drive, what they wear and even what they buy in a supermarket! Its natural.

However, i hate the old "if i parked my car next to yours in a supermarket then mine would get more looks!" I had the same thing said about Corrados and a Mondeo ST240! Its a load of balls!

I personally would rather look at the skyline because i see a lot fewer of them then i do the 911. That doesnt mean i think one is better than the other. I think you two need to stop your ******* contest and accept the fact that they are 2 very different cars!

Careful, he's gonna probably dig his grave a bit further now and say that you're not the "type of people" he'd want looking at his car anyway. :p

Despite our resident Patrick Bateman frothing at the mouth at the suggestion that people might look at another car when his is in the same carpark, obviously as far as cars are concerned it's different strokes for different folks :)

Personally I don't look down or draw comparisons between whatever I drive and what other people drive because I'm not materialistic. In the context of this thread however, and what was my original point, is there are nice cars that don't attract morons, but unfortunately people have preconceived opinions of marques without even knowing the attitude/ego of the person behind the wheel.

I'd struggle to have any sympathy for someone picking on housemaster's car though, based on his clear-as-day attitude that a cars value is king and that perception is the name of the game. Ironically there is a word for someone like that - a ponce. :D

It's human nature, same applies to how people dress, how they speak, etc. It's "wrong", but it's the reality of everyday life.

Thing is, I didn't even mention my car, and certainly didn't post a pic of it and start saying "look guys, clearly my car is the best and gets the most attention, not to mention I could sell mine and buy all of yours ten times over". Like I said, it said more about him and how he values people/worldly goods than anything else. If it is a ******* contest then I didn't get the invite.

The funniest thing is that I initially (and sarcastically) offered the supposition that "Porsche drivers are ponces" as the reason for car vandalism because it's the opinion that idiots down the pub have, and in this instance it's actually been borne out in this very thread. :D

Durzel quit the attacks its ruining the thread. So what he posted a picture of his car, I was about to ask for one anyway.

Nice car BTW. I have never been in GT3 sadly. Any chance of a lift to work ;)

the Porsche badge does nothing for me.

Nor me, I like the car.

Have to say i love those skyline pics too, which surprised me.

I LOVE that skyline and like the gt3. I was looking at the new turbo the other day and it wasnt really for getting me excited

I see an M5 or M6 and i just wanna see it getting driven hard and fast.

I wouldnt buy a gt3 for long high speed cruises for sure though,turbo/gt2 or M5 or something like that would be a lot more relaxing to cruise motorways at 150 odd's.

This whole debate over the4 badge thing and the Skyline thing is starting to show me why Penski likes cars that dont really have a badge most the time and arnt expected to be any good when really with the right amount of tuning drop your mouth to the floor.
BTW if you by are Skyline its more then likely to be the same reason to by a porsche TBH. Because the Skyline name is a God in the motoring society.

Hmmm, I must admit housemaster comes across as someone who loves his car and enjoys showing it off, I don't think I've read any thread in which he has mentioned his car and not posted a picture of it, but then I don't read every post on this forum.

Because of this it's easy (for me) to form the impression that he is boasting of his superior ride. However, I don't think so, I think he's just enthusiastic about his car and there's nothing wrong with that.

Sadly there is a fine line between being considered someone with a nice motor and being considered a vulgar show off.

I also think the point of this thread has been somewhat lost to a battle between "who likes the R34 over the 911" when, in reality, it maters not one jot as both drivers would probably be bothered with the same questions posed by the same teenagers mentioned in the OP's opening post, namely "How fast does it go, mister" and so on.

Even I get the same questions (although my answer has to be "not very, really").

I think that is simply a standard hazard of driving an "interesting" car. People will always want to talk about it, out of an interest in the car itself, an admiration for the engineering behind it, or simply that childish interest in fast cars. Let's face it, I bet most of us here had pictures of Ferraris, Lambo's or Masers on our walls as kids, and if we ever saw one pull up at the petrol station our first thought would be "Wow, I wonder how fast it goes".

I think the difference between owners (those who buy the car for the brand or image) and enthusiasts (those who buy the car because it is what they really want) is the willingness to talk about it to interested people. I'm always spending time chatting about mine at the petrol station or wherever, but then I bought my car because I like it, not for the badge (such as it is). I would find myself labelling someone who blanks questions or ignores people as a ponce, rather than because of the car they are driving.

I agree with that and most of what you said. I buy cars that I like, Not because I think its going to impress someone. If someone honestly showed a genuine interest in the car I'm quite happy to talk about it.
When I used my kit car for a couple of years as everyday transport I even had one guy chase me home because he actually knew what the car was and he wanted to know more about it. I was more than happy to invite him in for a cuppa and a quick look at what else I had in the garage.
The 'morons' I was refering to are the ones that hang around in large groups and ask stupid questions for their mates to laugh at. These are not people that are genuinely interested but, unfortunately you seem to get more of them.

Durzel, Why you talking like you have a Skyline? You sold it a few months ago

:p

Porsche for me I think.

What's that got to do with anything? How is it relevant to this discussion?

Skyline or porche?

Id buy the one i could afford, both are good but if i had a bigger budget id probably buy the porche

Id not be interested in impressing the boy racers if i had a skyline and id probably get stick from the boy racers if i had a porche, but what i would have is a better car for the person sitting behind the wheel, screw everyone elses oppinion, if you cant pick something better based on its merits and stop yourself because of what people might think then your just as bad as those people because your getting sucked into their ridiculous oppinions
