Why do peopel debadge cars?

I was referring to Raymond Lin's comments as they were posted about the same time as the dude with the debadged Golf's. :)

Nice car in your sig btw :)

your braver than me removing badges from french and italian cars, i thought they were key structural components and the grounding point for the electrics?

Grounding point for electrics??! In a French car??! They merely short anywhere they like and then catch fire I'll have you know! :D

Might be a stupid question, but does anyone else think that a car looks daft when its been debadged? Seeing quite a lot of them around here recently and its always a Corsa, Clio or Saxo etc.

Whenever i see one ill always think 'well yes its a clio, only now its got no chrome badge on the front'

Personally i like to see the badge, its add a bit of colour difference to the car. Especially on VWs, when youve just got the round plastic ont eh back where the badge has just been ripped off.

// end of daft ranty post with no point, i blame tiredness and my cold.

People do it on Beemers to make it look like they've got a better model when they put m spec wheels on it etc.

Although some like to hide the fact that is the better model, to stop tea leaves wanting it.

I debadged my Focus (left the Ford logo on). I personally much prefer the look on some cars. At the end of the day, the badge is free advertising for the company. For both cars I've had, it came off the same day as the vinyl sticker in the boot window and the garage branded tax disc holder.

Thats basically my thinking, its only there because mr ford or whoever wants it to be. I took the GTi badge off because with only 110bhp, thats false advertising nowadays imo. Especially with an extra 60kilos of LPG equipment on board and a flat spot the size of nebraska in the rev range :(

A practical reason would be that it retains moisture and promotes rust.

Admit it, it was because it said "Sport" wasn't it.... WASN'T IT !!!!!

:p :D

Its true, I was so ashamed I removed the smallest one on the car leaving the other two, and then just for good luck, added some more to the windows ;) :D

Anyway, must go, I'm off to McDonalds to do some boy racing now I've taken off two stickers! :D

Isn't it an option when purchasing a new BMW to have the badges removed?

Yeh it is.

I don’t mind people taking the badges off cars as long as it is the model badge. But I’m not too keen on cars that have had the make badge taken off as parts of the bodywork are normally designed around them.

I always take the dealer sticker off the back window

This is the badge I removed. See blue rectangle next to the left indicator.

Looks completely out of place I think.

(Ps the one in the pic is not mine)

I agree with most people in saying, it looks cleaner and smoother. Plus, when you wash the car it's x10 easier. :p No water hiding in stupid places!

I really like the debadged look. It's not about really hiding what car you've got as well, it's just something that is done.

Oh, and with my car I've added 200bhp because it's cut down on wind resistence hitting the badge. :D :p VROOOOOOOOM! lol.

It really is personal opinion and taste.

My personal opinion is that it's not good.

The black 306 posted with photos with and without the badge looks MILES better with the badge left on. Sorry, it just does.

On the + side, at least you did a good job removing it, the paintwork looks tidy.

It's also a purchase option on Audi's (or atleast was this time last year) and it cost something like £1k MORE to not have them on the back...aren't they nice...

The black 306 looks better without the badge IMO, the old style 306 with it's badge on is ok, but that's the modern badge and I no likey!

Quite a few Rover coupes came debadged as i cant imagine they are that hard to pinch and they are ruddy quick, even more so 10-15 years ago.

i had the 2.0 removed from my focus cos i don't want people trying to race me (it's not fast enough to play any how)

and i've removed the v5 from my seat toledo so i can surprise people!
