Why do people do this when advertising cars??

Just looking over on another forum and a car that's described twice as being "totally original" then goes on to list a load of mods as long as my arm.

It's like people who say "totally standard except for x y and z".

Are they just stupid?

I presume it's to stop the inevitable questions of: 'Has it got any other modifications'. So in effect the advertiser is saying that apart from x y and z it's totally standard.

Its a lot easier to list the changes you have made than the changes you havent made :\

So you say everything is standard apart from these 3 things...

Instead of i havent changed any of the following ( insert car parts ) but i have changed these...

Hah, yes I've noticed that one as well..I suppose it's reasons such as 'Im moving away' or 'Im expecting kids so this 2 seater uber-mobile will be useless'.
Compared with the other usual reasons for sale: 'Ive thrashed my scoob to within an inch of its life and the turbo is stuck on with duct tape'.

Yea, maybe I will try that when I sell my car.

Highly modified totally 100% standard original condition car for sale. A very well looked after and maintained car which has had the nust ragged off it from cold every day and never been serviced. I have a logbook although I can't find it. Totally genuinely fake reason for sale due to a voluntary 12 months rehabilitation at Her Majesty's Pleasure.

If there's 1 part or two changed then fair enough, but a list as long as my arm?

It's not a standard motor then though imho, standard means all bits are original/OE
