There is a guy at work who thinks it is clever when I say see you later to reply with no you won't.

One my ex bosses says it on the phone. Don't why but it kinda urks me from him.
I say "see ya" becuase I don't like saying bye, bye feels perminant.

I'm more concerned that you get annoyed with the fact that someone says "see you later mate" Geez get over yourself and get a life. This is also aimed at the ones that get annoyed at the ones who call them 'mate' whether they're your mate or not, it's just friendleyness at the end of the day. No need to be a nob and get all wound up about it.
I've been known to say "Okay, talk to you later bye!" to suppliers over the phone at work when I know I won't ever speak to them again. Just slipped out
