Why do people say "See you later mate"?

Is it me or does this forum have a lot of people too far up their own asses to realise that this is a JOKE? I would have thought the "arrgh Im so annoyed" bit would've given that away. I was just having a bit of fun. I'm not breaking any rules in order for me to be "banned". I apologise if you would rather prefer seeing massive exciting posts about fish tank setups, but the only people who deserved to be banned around here are the type of people who tell me to go cut myself over a forum post.

Please leave these forums!

Actually I use the phrase "See you later Duck" which is far worse than mate because you're not a duck.

I'm not your duck, guy!

Why do people say "See you later mate" when you're probably not going to see them again that day or maybe not ever again?

For example, you just finished paying a builder for doing some work on your house, and when he is walking away he is like "Alright mate, thanks, see you later".

I probably wont ever see him again, so why do people say it?!?! WHY?!?!?!? It's actually making me really annoyed. Argh!

lol this.
Just think how many useless things we do due to tradition. For example there is no reason to say bye to someone if they see you leaving again there isn't any reason to say hello to someone when you enter the room.
Also things like we ask how peoples weekends were even though we don't care.
Tl;dr we do a lot of things because of tradition/social rules.
