Why has this nvidia warning started to pop up now and then?

Hi,

If I remember, I built the core of my system back in August 2005 and I have had no problems until recently. When playing a game I'd be forced out of it with this message from nvidia...

"To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations"
Spec is here (System 1).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance :)

So I hit the windows key to leave the game, seems to be levelling off at 74C and the message popped up and UT2004 still ran ok even through the performance was lowered.

Surely 74C is within safe operation?

Might still be a little warmer than that as temperatures can decrease very quickly once out of a game. Tried rivatuner to record your temperate? Could also give a reinstall on drivers a go too.

I had a gigabyte 6600GT which was passive and came pre-overclocked, ran at 60c idle and 75-85c full load without any problems at all. 60c is quite hot if your card has a fan on it though, maybe its full of dust :)

It the Nvidia Sentinal and its normally lack of power, I used to get it all the time on my old 6800Ultra AGP as the molex Y piece 2 into 1 molex they included with card was crap, I wired card straight to a line from PSU and it went away, then I simply cleared the Windows XP event viewer as thats all it is basically.

I aint saying your issue is same but thats exactly what I got and mines was done to slack power connections.
