Why have we jumped to 4K?

Slightly off topic, but for me the difference comes when I watch an actual UHD disc with HDR enabled on my LG C1. Streaming in 4k ..... meh .... I can't really see the difference between Netflix 4k and Netflix 1080p. Not really. It all looks good to my eye.

I've started buying UHD BluRays and even the missus is commenting on the quality. And this is from a woman that had a TV one step above a wooden box TV when we met in 2016.

1.6 meters is just a little over 5 feet, I sit at 10 foot distance, 5 foot away from a TV is more like 2-3 foot space between sofa and your TV stand or wall which is no room at all, that's a smaller width than a tight corridor. Your ass is not on the edge of your sofa, it is sat back in it.. so add the sofa's girth...

Your math is incredibly bad.

Spacial awareness makes math work, practical application.

It would be interesting to see the optical resolution possible by a human eye vs resolution. That is set by physics if you read Dawes limit.
At it’s limit the two pixela become point spread and overlap causing them to blend into each outer.
Eye pupil diameter, distance to screen and wavelength should give you a resolution in arcsecond. It’s easy to then show if you can see the pixel size clearly or not..

The mother in law changed to a higher resolution TV.. the dog now growls and barks at onscreen animals whilst watching the TV. The 4K etc really has been driven by the desire for a larger screen area. To keep the resolution appearance to the eye requires additional pixel resolution..
