Why is the sky not totally bright?

Nice one. Might check them both out :)

If you are interested in going to the star camps at Kielder go here:

I am going in March again, always a good laugh! Even if it is dark, the pub is at the end of the campsite. Wrap up for extreme cold. Last years spring one was down to -13. Awesome views though! Ive never had a chance to use the observatory yet! Keep meaning to get up there sometime, but never get around to it! It is a fantastic place. I would recommend anyone with an interest in Astronomy to go there.

It's just mind boggling when you consider the huge distances involved in the universe. How can anyone ever consider space travel as being anything more than laughable stuff you see on TV like Startrek where they hop from one star system to another whilst having a cup of coffee.

Or even worse Aliens 2 where Ripley is found in her cyro capsule after 50 years returning to Earths orbit from a distant galaxy where she discovers Earth has since colonised the alien planet but lost all contact so she is sent back ( another 50 years?) to find the place wrecked and deserted except for a ten year old girl called newt who miraculously survived all this time on her own, enjoyable as these films maybe they give a totally misleading impression regarding time and distance.

If you consider that the speed of light is around 670 million miles per hour
and some of the star systems known to have planets may be 10 light years away or vastly more then to even consider that one day we will collonise somewhere outside our our own system is inconceivable.

If we ever attain the ability to travel at (if it's possible) or close to the speed of light then it would be possible on so called 'Ark Ships'.
