Why isn't it recommended to get a diesel...

I'm currently getting 47.2mpg around town without really trying.

I find that very hard to believe, I struggle to reach 40 around town in the same car. Infact my motorway mileage (at least 2/3's of my commute) only really sees me getting high 40's - which I'm not complaining about

I only ever see mpg starting with a 5 on long runs, if that was your town usage you'd probably be looking at close to 60mpg on real roads - I just can't see it

Ok.. I have only ever reset the mpg when I first got the car as it then gives a ridiculous figure of 70+mpg for a while after, until it settles down.

Sorry for the carp picture I'm hopeless with a stills camera

Ouch.. Those scratches don't half show up in a picture don't they !

Wonder if there's anyway to get rid of them ?

I never drove the FK3 but I did have a look around one a while back and I was wondering - how does having the spoiler half way up the back window not bother you? :p

I'm a truck driver.. I use the wing mirrors !!

I also have a double din headunit with reversing cam that I'm about to install as driving a 50 foot long wagon kinda messes up your 6th sense when reversing in a car !!

I find the CDTI honda lump pretty economical, my dads cars a 2004 accord, and i can get 43-45mpg with my driving style, my 2009 dtec on gives me 38mpg with similar driving styles.

I've added a camera too - great for when you aren't sure just where the daft back end...well ends. The spoiler is ideally located to stop headlight glare from behind at night too i find.

All you've shown there is your average over 1700 miles - I'll check my "A" trip that I havent reset for, at a guess 8k which will show roughly the same, I only ever reset the second counter - driving probably 2/3 A road/ motorway. I still can't see you getting that kind of economy around town. Ok my car is mapped but all it does is sit at 65-75 (indicated)mph most of its life

The scratches are a bugger, don't think there's any easy way to get rid of them. You can buy a plain insert for the dash but I think it looks rubbish in comparison.

Hi, the Ford 1.6 ecoboost engine will give you that. I can easily obtain 37mpg around town and just below 50mpg on a run, not driving slowly, or over if I drive like a granny..
Chris

So how many miles out of a tank is that, would it do over 400 range so I dont need to stop twice in a shift?

I used to use this all the time on plastics at the last Aircraft company I worked for, it was brilliant at cleaning and removing scratches of various depths...

i think the problem is manufactures banging out cheap rubbing, i have a volvo s60 d5, its done 140k now, still on original injectors, dmf, dpf, turbo ect, yet when you go on ford/vw/vauxhall forums theyre a lot are having majour problems before its even done 100k, my brother has a 2.0 tdi 140ps, had injectors issues before 90k, its on 110k now and the clutch pedal is shaky probably the dmf

i think if you want a diesel buy a good quality product such as volvo, bmw, mercedes ect

my mpg is okish been using it around town for 2 weeks computer saying 35-37 mpg

As promised, exhibit A:

To be fair its went down a bit recently as I've been cycling more with the better weather meaning the car does a higher percentage of short trips. Was sitting at something like 48 unril recently. I cant see how you could possibly average this with only town driving.

Oh and your not wrong r.e the scratches! Those aren't even visiblewhen actually looking at the display

That speedo plastic is really soft on the Honda's ime, same as the bleeding paint!

I think the way to go with a modern diesel is a good warranty. I will never buy a dagdag again without one and even then i'd make sure i'd exhausted every petrol possibility before looking at them.

I bought a diesel XF and love it, so much so that I don't really drive my 200Sx at all now.

Thing is, before I got the car, I looked at the 2.0 petrol and that was not a nice engine at all, just didnt have any guts at all, so the diesel was the best option at the time, I dont really need a diesel, but we can only have diesels on the company car scheme now. They dont bother me, as a work tool they are great, but Ive got eveyone within my family to get rid of their diesel the costs are just too high for a local runaround type car.
This was one of the silly things I thought of when I bought my car. "Oh, I quite like that Seat Ibiza, they're really cheap". "Oh, I can get a really poor 1.2/1.4 for roughly the same price as the 1.9 TDI, and the 1.8T is just too thirsty".

Should've gone with thirsty as 3 months later my mileage went down from about 400pw to 400pm. :(

i pay £12 for top level AA cover with breakdown repair warrenty - if something breaks they fix it upto £500 cost, i also have 3 good mates who run their own garages 2 of which have the latest daignostic equipment ect so i never need to worry :)
