When looking for gaming notebooks, gamers usually check firstly types of games they play and then check which mobile graphics cards will suit their needs.

MSI offers comprehensive graphics card choices of gaming notebooks. Check below table and you can find that MSI gaming notebooks offer grahics card choice from mobile GTX980 grahics with desktop performance level and with MXM SLI SKU, GTX980M and GTX980M SLI, to the basic GTX950M DDRs SKU (Table.1). Hi Loki,

I am looking at the MSI GT72S 6QD Dominator G-048UK or the GS72 equivalent but I was wondering how much difference there is in the cooling given the Dominator is thicker? I was also looking at a GB P57w and whilst it has the DVD as removable it seems to lack the networking and audio capabilities but means I can get a third SSD in there as Linux drive.

My google skills are failing me and it seems hard to find decent reviews of the Skylake laptops!

Oh I tend to play Arma 3 and have GTA V ready to go once I have purchased a laptop.

(In relation to the audio, my desktop runs an SB Z card with Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro's and I would like to maintain similar audio as the sound stage on the DT's are huge and make Arma sound awesome!)

Hi Brackish

Both the GT72 and the new GS72 use our Cooler Boost 3 cooling technology. These offer independent heatpipes for CPU and GPU. The Dominator is thicker and that is in part because of the MXM technology and it also has an optical drive.

The GS72 is a brand new model for us that has literally launched in the last few days and stock will be arriving in the UK pretty soon. This is slightly thinner and lighter than the GS72 due to us shrinking down the screen bezel. You can expect a 4K and none 4K version. The GS72 will come with a GTX 970M 6GB.

I have put the system specs in and for GTA V you would expect to play in Ultra Settings on 1920 x 1080 and 2560 x 1440

Game Debate Specs - GTA V - Like for Like on GPU/CPU/MEM

You should expect the same experiance on ARMA III Link on Like for Like Specs

Finally on the sound side of things, both the GS72 and GT72 have independent amps for speakers and headphones and we work with Nahimic Sound which having had a notebook with Creative Soundblaster inside, the Nahimic is equally on par. The GS72 may edge it for you over the 048UK as it also has DAC Audio (Hi Res Audio)

In closing on GS72 availability, OcUK should have our two new models up for pre order tomorrow

Hope that helps and of course any questions, please do not hesitate to ask

I have to say this is a great post which I stumbled on accidentally. Was pondering getting a new gaming PC but I can't be arsed messing about building one. Having looked at a multitude of different laptop brands, I didn't know that MSI had such a varied range! Now I'm bound to find something that suits my price point.

The biggest attraction to the high end MSI GT72S series is the PCIe m.2 ssd adapter which gives you RAID0 @ 2990MBps, Also something else that is incorporated in the GT series is the combo Type-C 3.1 USB port that is a Thunderbolt 3 combo port.
Within 12 months you will see an array of devices, peripherals and docking systems with the setup of SLI external boxes that will also have ports for Ethernet, 2 x 4K monitors and many raid array towers etc.
This is a not an up to date list but it does show a number of MSI models using this new technology.

So Im pretty safe to buy this laptop and It can be upgraded In the next year with better graphics

its the MSI 17.3" GT72S 9S7-178211-1063

Hi guys Im seriously thinking about getting rid of my gaming rig and getting a GT72S with the 980 gpu. But what are my upgrade options with this can I add an external gpu in the future or can the gpu be upgraded with the GT72 MXM module upgrade??

My two options are the MSI GT72S 6QF-094 Dragon or MSI GT72S Dragon Edition (9S7-178344-032) to be honest the spec it nearly identical and both are around the £2600 price

Any help appreciated :)

Have to admit I love the GS range from MSI. However with my GS60 I noticed the 860m really does not keep up with games now almost 2 years old it is getting on. Good job I got a gs70 wit a 970m however guys I wish you would use an IPS in the GS70 like the GS60 my only complaint !
