I was thinking this the other day - goldeneye is one of the best games of the decade, so why not whack it on xbox live?

If i remember correctly, rare made goldeneye, and microsoft own rare - so there shouldnt be a problem.

Also it would sell like freshly baked hot cross buns (lame...) , so from a "lets make money" point of view, it shoudlnt be a problem there either.

And best of all, goldeneye would be perfect over live!

And why stop there? How about perfect dark, banjo kazooie, etc?

Licensing issue with James Bond, I think.

Also low res games from yesteryear look terrible on HD consoles and kill any decent memories you had...

Would have thought Nintendo have some rights where N64 games are concerned, regardless of the developer.

Also, Goldeneye is a lot more recent than anything that has shown up on XBLA so far.

Ok, i can see where the James Bond problem might occur, but not Perfect Dark.

Another thing, rare havnt brought any new games out for ages - microsoft may as well put them to good use!

From the Wiki page on GE64:

The President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, announced that Nintendo is exploring the possibility of adding GoldenEye 007 to the Wii Virtual Console, despite a complicated situation in which the game's developer Rare is owned by Microsoft (producers of the rival Xbox 360 console) and the video game rights to the James Bond franchise are held by Activision. He stated, "We would love to see it [on the Virtual Console], so we're exploring all the rights issues."[43]

It`s because EA/Activision owns the James Bond license. I am fairly certain that it would be the size of the game that`s the barrier to XBLA availability and not licensing issues.

Well, that was actually quite fun, maybe I should browse with the Wii a bit more!

 ingenious. Flash games for the Wii browser. Yeah, I agree it takes a while to post, but it's strangely absorbing (it rumbles and goes beep beep boop a lot).

Posting on PC now ;)

One major point that is being overlooked here, is that to get Goldeneye on XBLA would mean a N64 emulator.... there's no way Nintendo would allow that!

Unless a studio is willing spend a lot of time and money porting it... which is probably out of the question for the limited return. Clearly the Wii is the only straightforward option for making it available again, Nintendo already have the N64 emulation sorted for other Virtual Console games.

I think Nintendo own the code, while Rare owns the right to most of its game except James bond rights which right now are owned by activision.

So there for it have Zero chance of appearing xbl, its more likely to appear on the Wii if Nintendo and Activision come to an arrangement
