Why not use a 100hz TV rather than an expensive 120hz "gaming" monitor?

If this is the case, how come people game on consoles on big LCD/LED/Plasma TVs with games like COD without input lag issues?

Try playing frame specific games like Fighting Games, trust me you notice and detest it.
Some Plasmas get down to aound the 16ms input lag which is 1frame which is playable on.

Some TVs have gaming modes that reduce input lag to some extent.

I had a Sony Bravia a while back which was useable once setup correctly.

If you look into detailed reviews of TVs you will see some have reasonable lag, but as stated many suffer from horrific lag. If you tried to play online PC shooters on some TVs it'd be a bloodbath!:p

Remote for monitor: Presumably this is just to switch it on and off? You can remote control the mains socket or get a clever power saving power-strip that detects when (say) the computer is switched off and switches off other sockets as well.

British Gas (our Electricity supplier) sent us one which "detects when you switch off your TV with the remote control and cuts power to everything else plugged into the strip. Use the remote control to switch your TV back on and all your appliances are ready to use again". In fact it can be configured to switch off when you press any button on your remote.
