The cupra you get far more for your money and imho carries better reliability than any french hatchback![]()
Sorry should have made myself clearer, my criteria for a car this time round was how it drove, nothing else.
Style, reliability (to a point) etc were not in the equation, I don't particularly like how the thing looks.
It is better as it handles better and is quicker (was it mid to high 6s you said with all those mods, Clio does this as standard). The steering give much better feedback and the engine felt a lot nicer. This is all standard, and as I said modding was not part of the equation. Also returned better fuel consumption.
As for reliability, I always find that card played when you mention any French hatch, and personally have found it to be quite unjustified in my experiances, but that's just me. 20k hard driven miles so far (50k in total in the clock), no squeaks, rattles, problems that aren't consumables, and gives good mpg. Insurance was cheap and it was cheaper to buy for the same year than the equivilent Ibiza. I've since noticed Ibiza prices come down a little though.
The Ibiza will be "better" if you throw some cash at the suspension, not sure what the brakes are like (Clio stopped faster from 100 than Porkers and Ferraris in Autocar 0-100-0 tests), and then throw a few k at the engine and you've got 300bhp and a quick machine. The R I looked at was very nice, but at 9k was too pricey compared to a 172, couldn't justify it even though I love red Brembos
