Why such a big gap in RAM divider?

I am overclocking my E4500 (can hit 2.86Ghz, 260FSB) perfectly happily and dont need to go higher. However, I dont want to OC my RAM, as I am already on my 3rd set of Ballistix-it seems pretty unreliable anyway! But in my P35C-DS3R's RAM multiplier options there is a gap between 2.50 and 3.00. This is right where I want to be if I want mine to run around stock speeds. Why is this gap here, and can I change it?

You should have no issues running the PC5300 Ballistix at 780mhz 4-4-4-10.

I've had 4 ;)

I wouldn't expect it to die at 780mhz on the x3.0 multiplier tho.

But it's at 650mhz on the x2.5 multi at 260x11, and that's pretty much dead-on the PC5300's stock speed.
