Why would anyone buy a 6970 over this GTX480

Power consumption + noise immediately come to mind

Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the 6970 noisy and heavy on power too.?

Edit:

The 6970 is around 60-70 watts less on load compared to the 480,so thats hardly an excuse not to buy a 480 over the 6970. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/12/15/ati-radeon-hd-6970-review/10

And around 5 Decibels less than a 480 on load, again hardly any difference really compared to the 6970. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/307449-15-6970-noise

And lets not forget when the 480 is OC to 850mhz -900mhz its a killer of a card

The two are worlds apart in power and sound levels. Start overclocking the GTX480 and things get even worse.

A GTX480 with an uber water kit might be something worth considering if power consumption isn't a concern. Maybe high end water on a 350-400watt peltier.

TEC under water is the best way to tame Fermi. They respond well to cooling and all the high end HSF seems to do is shut the card up.

It would be stupid voiding your warranty and spending £40 -£50 on top for a quite GTX480 when £210 gets you a HD6970.

I think as 6970 has 2Gb vram so it helps more in higher resolutions and infact there was a thread here couple of weeks ago about 570 vs 6970 and somebody did mention that at higher resolutions like 2560 etc 6970 pulls apart from 570 and gives higherr gains in FPS at those resolutions.

5dB's is a hell of a lot of difference, is nearly half (6dB is the half power point)......that would make a difference in my book

Yeah the 570 has 1.3GB of ram, the 480 1.5, can't really compare them.

As for the coolers I posted links to, only people with no clue would state water cooling is required to keep a 480 cool and quiet. Vid below showing both coolers in action and running furmark, 850 core on the 480. The Zalman hits 72c and is ultra quiet.;)

I'd never buy a 480 regardless of price, I just don't want the noise or the warranty voiding aftermarket cooler.

If it was £400 I was blowing on a card then yeah I may think twice about putting an aftermarket cooler on, under £200 it's an easy choice.

how is it then more advantageous to buy a gtx 480 over a 6970 if you will be forced to get an aftermarket vga cooler - voiding your warranty in the process - just to keep it tame at 72c

£200 + £40-50 (gpu cooler) is not really a killer deal for what it is i.e. a watt sucking, heat convector of a graphics card, I am sorry. That is the whole reason I kept away from it and bought myself a 6950 instead.

Same old biased BS from yourself again, do you ever give it a rest?

Tame lol, 72c whilst running furmark with an 850 OC. You know you sound just like guy that has been previously banned on here.
