Wifeys 1.4 Fiesta Diesel has no power

Car is an 07 Fiesta, and until very recently has been fine. In the last few days however it is just lacking any poke at all. Before once it got about 2k rpm it would keep going until 4k but now it just wants to slowly increase revs. I tried to overtake a coach on the dual carriageway away from some lights and it felt like two snails were competing.

I know its not a performance car but its always been a lot better than that.

It's going in next Wednesday for a full service anyway but I just wondered if anyone had heard of or experienced similar.

Fuel filter clogged or has water in it

Some Diesel filters you can drain the water out by loosing a screw or plug at the bottom of them...

A dead MAF sensor will kill the performance.

Try this first. Unplug the MAF (look for a connection inbetween the airbox and the engine and unplug it. If performance is better (but probably nowhere near as good as before) it's new MAF time.

So many things it could be. Best thing to do is mention it when it goes in for a service and then they'll know to keep an eye out for anything that may cause it.

Thanks for the opinions. I'll check the MAF tonight when I get home.

She told me last night that sometimes it goes back to normal but upon further questioning about it i'm not sure if she is right or not.

It ticks over fine and doesn't have an issue starting. We'll see what occurs.

maybe the maf or the EGR valve sticking open

Sounds like the 1.4 NON-diesel that I had for a hire car in Spain a few years back. Slowed down and saw it was clear to go so left it in 3rd and tried to pull away...nothing happened :eek:

a very panicked and stressed (30hrs no sleep!) me managed to finally find 2nd gear and just about enough juice to get me round

Anecdote aside, are there any visual symptoms like blue/white smoke from the exhaust?

Wouldn't be surprised if it's EGR - common thing with diesels, especially if used mostly for short journeys.

Post 1 nailed it. Turbo had seized. Also the injector seals were leaking. Both now fixed and according to the garage its running perfectly.
