Sorry if this question has come up before, but I wasn't sure what I should be searching for. I went through all this before with the PS2/360, but the threads no longer seem to be there.

The question is, I have a pretty bog standard Widescreen TV, nothing special, and I was wondering what type of conenctor I should buy to get the best quality?

Generally, you'll only have component input through HDTVs, yes, but if you have a HDTV, though it woud generally be the better picture I believe, presuming the euro Wii can output 480p.

GCs use a special component cable, that have component connectors on one end, and a special connector on the other that goes in the GC.
Chances are that the digital output will be the same on the Wii considering that the outputs on Nintendo consoles have been the same for generations.

Afraid not, I've heard the Wii is using a new connector.

So wait, since I don't have a HD TV, I can't use a component lead?

Depends on your TV... my Tosh (CRT) 32ZP38 accepts 576p over component. So should be quite nice for the Wii. (although I'm betting that the Wii will only do up to 480p).

Ive yet to see concrete information regarding connections. So your 'hearing' is just as valid as my theory. ;)

Point is though, that if the GC can do 480p & output over component, then its likely that the Wii will as well, whatever the connector it uses.

Yeah, well I'd also heard it shoots lightening out of the front slot

That is partly correct.
Though the connection on the Wii is meant to be the same as on the GC. The GC used a seperate lead for sound than it did for component video. On the Wii this will all be on 1 connector.
There was a post about it earlier in the week.

Also as far as i know, 576P is basically the PAL version of 480P so it should look damn good on that 576P CRT.
Wiki - 576P

The Wii is set to be shipped with a Composite cable. Component cables can be purchased seperately.
