Wilko's back **6 Nations Spoilers**

First results of this weekend's games are as follows:

Ireland 19 - 18 Scotland

A hard fought win here for Ireland, which gives them their third Triple Crown title in four years. ;)

Congratulations to Ireland on the win and the Triple Crown, they might have been the better team but they were still lucky to win. Results count though. :)

Well done also to Italy for their first back to back wins in the 6 Nations, very happy to see them win it although it does leave Scotland stuck in the bottom two.

Ireland played pretty poorly, but a wins a win, and to be honest with the way Scotland play I don't think many teams will be able to destroy them unless Scotland gift silly tries like they did against italy.

As for Wales, oh dear, that wooden spoon is looming large now. The end was a bit farcical, but from what I heard from the refs mike on bbc, they asked 'how long was left' and chris white said 10secs. What they should have asked was 'Is there time for a lineout?' Tap and go was probably a better option imo anyway.

Doesn't take anything away from the Italians who played well, and finally their backs are starting to look a bit more potent and confident.

Italy played fairly well, as they have done all tournament pretty much, but I've heard a few different reports about what the ref said. I seriously thought that Wales would just go for the draw if they knew the time but I don't know what happened and I don't think half of the Welsh team did either. :)

Most of Ashton's selection gambles paid off handsomely. Corry was a revelation in the second row (my MoM in fact). Payne was the best prop on the pitch and Rees and Easter got through mountains of work in the backrow.
Strettle was also excellent, comfortably Englands best back.
Catt was hardly the steadying influence everyone is claiming though. Spilled a couple of simple passes early on and his kicking from hand was very loose. Good outside break for Flood's try but, as was mentioned in commentary, Lewsey was right on his shoulder when he elected to try and bulldoze Poitrenaud. A bigger FB would have buried him and the try would have gone begging.
Tindall had a shocker. Missed tackles, loose kicks, sideways running, knock ons in contact. I was screaming for Tait to come on. At least he hung onto the ball and fell over the line for a try.
Everyone else had a mixed game of good and bad, but at least the effort was there. We hit a few rucks like we meant it and there was even some quick ball. A sight that hasn't been seen at Twickers since 2003. :D

Roll on Wales. If we stuff them by 60 we can still win the championship!

I'm fairly certain that's exactly what professional sport is all about.

Well, you're going to look pretty stupid when you see the 6 Nations table. If we'd defended better we'd be in a position to win the thing but the points difference between us and the top 2 is so massive that we'd need to beat Wales by about 70 clear points to have any hope of winning.

I'll refer you about five posts upwards. Actually I'll quote myself so you don't have to bother yourself reading it.

And if we'd scored 50 points against the Irish it wouldn't matter because we'd have 8 points instead of 6.

Would you rather win a 6 Nations championship with a points difference of 100 and 1 defeat or win a Grand Slam with points difference of +5?

You'd always take the Grand Slam wouldn't you? History records the winners, not the method. Though you'll think I'm being facetious.

Okay, so the French have managed to get the 24 points they needed to overtake Ireland. But, let me ask you this......

Say the clock was about to run out, France were leading by 25 points, and Scotland get a penalty in front of the French posts. Scotland are well beaten by this time and are only playing to maybe get another try. Should Scotland kick the penalty, reduce the deficit to 22 and let Ireland win the Championship?

Hypothetical I know, but what would you, as Scotland captain, in that situation do?
