Will a PCIe x16 card work on a PCIe x4 board?

you mean like the 4COREDUAL-VSTA?
No reasone why not, i have a DUAL-VSTA as a backup mobo, and it ran my X1900XTX fine.
As long as its x16 physical (size) then it should work..... wont work on a x4 physical though as the card literaly wont fit in the slot.

According to optimummind in the last post the 8800gt doesn't work with the 4coredual/vsta.
Not because of the 4x slot but because like several other boards it's currently incompatible with the via chipset used.

Read that aswell but ignored it and gave it a try. Used a 8800GTS OC2 on a 4coredual/vsta, Only for a day but it did work until my nice DS4 arrived. Just remember to completely uninstall all existing graphics driver before putting it in like i didn't.
