hi all, read a few posts that socket 478 coolers has the same fittings for socket m 479... can anyone confirm this before i waste even more money buying something that won't fit?? :P

thanks!!

I ran a 478 low profile server heatsink on a 479 board with a t2350, did the job.
Think any 478 cooler should fit, might need to get hold of an old p4 heatspreader though.

Erm if a 478 cooler already fit, even though it was low profile it would still fit even if it is full size...

This post is a bit... erm... meh

just did some googlilng.. you might be right cinderz... or he might be refering to the metal plate on a pentium 4

...so get a broken p4 chip.. remove the heat spreader and and attach it to my T2600?? :P Am i mad?:P

I wouldn't attach anything to a processor. Just apply for TIM but only a tiny amount and you should be ok.

And yes you are mad... barking mad infact xD

I am referring to the metal plate, need it for some coolers or they will not make good contact.
Had one on t2350, but not on the older Pentium m setup as the cooler was screwed down so made good contact anyway.

Its not mad to do it, perfectly sane actually, have a look around some historic threads. :)
