Thinking of asking for one for xmas but not sure if it will provide a noticeable difference.
I know this question has been asked recently but I wanted to be a bit more specific...
I have a Cambridge Audio amp - an old A500 and a pair of Celestion F20's. Neither are fantastic but they have been going for 7 or 8 years and I am in no position to upgrade at the moment. Might get new speakers in a year or so as the sound of these is a bit flat and undynamic.
They are connected to my computer by a 3 or 4 metre cable plugged into the back of my computer. Not a rubbish cable but not a great one either.
Speakers are also not ideally laid out as if I am in bed they are behind me and if I am at my desk they are to the left of me. Like the long connecting cable though this is kinda dictated by my room layout.
I did notice a difference going from my ancient Socket A motherboard to my ASUS P5Q Pro with the Realtek ALC 1200 chip I think it is.
would it be worth spending £50 or so on a soundcard? Second hand would be fine. I can't justify spending close to a ton on getting a good one at the moment.
I mainly watch videos and TV and a play a bit of music. Very little gaming. As I only have stereo speakers though 7.1 is useless for me.
Also I will probably upgrade my motherboard in 12 to 18 months. With on board sound inproving all the time how long will it be before any sound card bought is inferior to whatever comes on the motherboard I will eventually buy a few years down the line?
If it is worth it what card I be looking at?
Thanks in advance for your advice suggestions
