Will an Intel Atom Dual-Core 330 CPU be quicker than an AMD Athlon 2800?

Thinking of upgrading one of my daughters PC's with an ITX system but didn't want to go down in speed on the processor.
I know it's a lot newer by at least 5 years but the 1.6ghz speed bothers me.

Thanks

I have an Athlon 3000 under the desk (old computer I use for testing networked code and as a backup) and it completely destroys the Atom 330 in my netbook at everything I use it for.

The Atom runs at about the same speed clock for clock as a late Pentium 4 if you average out the benchmarks. Pentium D 1.6GHz anyone?

I'd build something with a Pentium E/Core 2 instead.

its easily better than a athlon xp 2800 i assume you mean?

but i wouldnt recommend it over a custom system tbh
